Front end conversion
Hi everybody
The vast amount of information has taken its toll…
R1 Front end…YZF front end… FZR1000 front end…which one to take?
R1 needs a new yoke, YZF doesn’t?? FZR i don’t know…
I’d like to keep the R1 brakes (bluestars) so YZF and late FZR1000 with 6 piston calipers are not an option…
Can somebody give me something like a summary of the different possibilities of USD swaps?
Thanks in advance
Basil

Re: Front end conversion
YZF750 forks are the easiest way. The steering head stem has to be switched with a press.btschudi wrote:Hi everybody

YZF750 forks need very little work to fit bluespot brakes so you can keep them. You dont want the 6 pistons calipers anyway.
You can even keep the speedo drive.
R1 forks are more work, the stem is not a straight swap, you need something for speedo.
FZR1000 forks I dont know about them. Are close to YZF750 I suppose.

I mean if the FZR1000 ones for example the 1991 (they switched to the 6 pot calipers later i think from 1993 onwards) are similar concerning the yoke then i should go for those i guess

Re: Front end conversion
If you're not after an UPSD front end and like to use original yokes, you'll better stick to Thundercat / YZF600R forks.
I'm not familiair with them but I believe they are the same dimensions as original forks and are adjustable.
But what do you want to achieve with the front end conversion?

Re: Front end conversion
If you're going UPSD you'll need the yokes too.
So I stick with the YZF750R advise.

Re: Front end conversion
G'day T-Rex Fam,
first Q since joining. I picked up a 95 TRX850 a month ago, original 42000kms. very tidy but want to firm her up a bit. My mate has a set of triples and forks from an 08 ZX10R he will sell to me, they have seen about 500kms before he upgraded. Q is - what sort if issues have people dealt with when putting the USD forks and triples onto the TRX? OR, if anyone has the measurements/specs of the headset diameters that'd be great too.
worst case I can always see if they fit and just sell em if not, but any wisdom would be well appreciated.
thanks,
Chuck.

Re: Front end conversion
You will need TRX stem, don't know about zx fork diameter but if you use Yzf750, R6 2co, or R1 5vy yokes they have same offset as stock yokes

Re: Front end conversion
At the moment I have a set of YSS cartridge emulators laying in the toolbox, waiting to be installed. I actually discarded the idea last year, but them I needed some other parts, and these fell into the basket
If money really wasn't a factor to consider, I'd put in a set of real adjustable cartridges. Bitubo JBH0, Öhlins NIX22/NIX30, Andreani Misano Evo, Maxton SD20 etc. It'll probably cost you more than the YZF-fork, but it's a straight fit, and you don't have to mess with stems, clip-on's, wheels, axles and all that.
Head set is part number Y472515-553017. Dimensions gives the numbers "Front end conversion" will be your favourite search term. Hours worth of reading!
Andn congrats on your choise of bike
