Skellys race engine

Post by skelly » Thu Sep 17, 2020 10:05 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie here so this TRX malarkey is still a bit of a learning curve.
I'm building a TRX850 race bike and I'm currently pondering engine mods.
I already have an Ignitech tci4 or whatever its called, Big zorst and FCR41 carbs.
I have a few engine ideas but I thought it may be sensible to put some questions on here first.
It would be interesting to hear peoples thoughts on getting this engine to really go while having a decent amount of reliability.
Are there any cam / valve / piston combinations that are tried and tested ?
Do I really need posh rods ? are the originals crap ?
Also it would be ace if any of you could point me in the direction of good suppliers for tuning goodies.
So far I have only found this:
http://www.gw-racing-parts.de/index2.ph ... 997&lan=en
I have a decent machine shop so can do valve seat cutting, cylinder boring / honing, ali welding, milling, turning etc and I have built race engines for years so I'm cool with getting all techy if needs be.
Hope some of you can help.
Cheers
Skelly.

You should read this thread... http://www.trx850.com/phpBB_forum/viewt ... f=5&t=9570
It's long, coz Cobba tinkered with just about everything possible, but if it's been modified on a TRX then it's probably in there.

Step 1. Sort your chassie.

Worth about 15 hp in engine. Then read lengthy thread from Cobba and Coxy. They have done it all.

Step 2. Dig into engine. Pieter at HPS-Motoren probably have the fastest TRX with lots of cc.
