Welding didn't work, so drilling next up. Just need to do some shopping first. And add some grunt in the bike with a sticker...

Did an attempt to fix the fused and broken bolt in the swingarm today. Took me a few hours including the shopping I had to do, and resulted in an ugly "temporary" solution. Managed to drill it fairly straight but unfortunately slightly off centre. And the length of the shit stuck in the swingarm!! Drilled 35 mm before I got through the old bolt. Anyways, all good until I got up in drill size, 4 mm and 5 mm was OK but that's it. Couldn't use 6 mm without getting some aluminium along. Then what?

The drilled bolt didn't move at all during my prodding so that's when I decided on the ugly solution. I threaded the hole with M6 and used the old bolt as an insert instead of making an even bigger mess trying to remove it and likely destroying the original M8 threads.

F*k'd up? You bet, different size bolts for same function is frustrating! But it should work until I come up with a better idea or find another swingarm for the R6 rear.

One 'trick' to removing stuck bolts is to drill them with a LH twist drill.
These are usually available from the same companies that make screw extractor bits. (Suttons in Australia)
For some reason they never package the LH bits with the screw extractors, and I've never understood why.
For many stuck bolts the LH drill will cause it to come out without needed to use the extractor.
I think in your case it would be very difficult given the length of the bit needed to get to the bolt, but for general applications a LH twist bit can work wonders.
Just don't leave them to get mixed up with your normal RH bits.

You never know what might fall off a TRX...

Better secure it so I know it's thightened. Aaaand for you who think the wire is there to secure the bolt tight, it's not. It's there so you know the bolts have been tightened and, in the off chance they work themselves loose anyway, won't unwind completely.



Honestly, not much else going on since the bike more or less is "done" until I can get money for an engine rebuild. Looks like there's not going to be any Brno-trip so might replace that with a serious session on a dyno. To get a health check and a "Before" status.

I've never seen caliper bolts secured like this, with removable clips.

Very handy, especially in Endurance/Relay that we did a couple of years back. Gets A LOT of re-winding otherwise, slowing down pit stops with tire/brake change.

When nothing else happens, and everyone is practicing "social distancing" (like Swede's ever did it any other way...) any little thing is progress. Like bike getting something like original stickers back after 15-odd years! There goes my plans for a nice and fast look. Seems like it will stay stock colors another season unless I stumble upon some race fairings.



Track days coming up in two weeks, 22:nd and 24:th. First time with new ignition and carb setup. Will be interesting, let's see if I can match PB again. We never got to do one of the tracks last season, that day rained away with slicks on the bike.

Also, reworked one of the crashed Yoshimura cans from my R1 racebike to a replacement for my "stock" Akra. Heavier but JIC you know...

Halfways... Didn't get it out, but drilled it and put a smaller bolt inside and running with that until something gives. Now have M8 one side and M6 one side. Somewhat planning for a swing arm change and contemplating alternative.
