190 or 180 ?

Post by devonnick » Mon Jan 15, 2018 11:52 am

Hi i am using a yzf 5.5 rear wheel and swing arm at the moment it has 180 55 17 Dunlop roadsmart...im thinking of going 190 50 or 190 55 rear any thoughts on this im already using R1 forks so it is lower at the front so would a 190 50 balance it out a bit? ..thanks

Not sure there is any advantage of going to the 190 over a 180/55

If you want to raise the rear I would swap to YZF750 dogbones

190 profile is designed for a 6" rim.
You deform the tyre and actually loose contact patch
Raise the rear ride height as Conrod mentioned and use 10mm + shorter dog bones

Geometry changes need to be made to compensate for a wider rim. Even changing from a 5" to a 5.5"rim. Further changes again need to be made to then accomidate a 6" rim.
The only reason you would want a 6" rim is racing and pushing over 110Hp+
If I recall correctly, Over racing TRX's or Alan Cathcart's TRX was running a 6.25" rim
