1200?
has anyone bothered to check to see if there is any interchangability between the new super tenere 1200 and the 850/900 ?
The castings themselves look completely different, but the heads might fit on? maybe?
That would be really nice. it would give the engine big hop in mid range torque.
oh and just as a side note it has a lug on the back of the cylinder head where it was deleted on the 900.

Re: 1200?
I would use the Super tenere frame and rear swing arm as that is setup with shaft drive paraphernalia.
Change front end to modern day r6. fairing or naked as preferred. Easiest route if the frame from the tenere is not damaged.
I actually have already thought of the possibilities when the tenere was first released
Good luck!

Said with utter confidence. like when they said you couldnt shoe horn the full 900 complete with oil tank in the TRX frame... which has now been in my bike for 4 years.Mincehead wrote:Nope, it won`t work. If it did the race boys would`ve already done it.

Re: 1200?
Yeah I thought about that but then it wouldnt be a TRX anymore, i may as well just buy and run a superten. If i got an engine I would ditch the output shaft, i am sure that there is a take off for the frontTrixed wrote:I would use the Super tenere frame and rear swing arm as that is setup with shaft drive paraphernalia.

Engines are still pretty expensive at the moment. but maybe one day. They don't actually produce that much more power than the 900 or 850, but they must have a lot of torque.

Don't be discouraged laaaad - it it could fit then Coxy would make it fit!
I was singularly unimpressed with the 1200 Tenere - ok, its a heavy mother but the fuelling/mapping and fly by wire/electronics made it dull to ride. But in theory, a 1200 twin SHOULD be made to go well.
Quite different bore/stroke - TDM900 92 x 67.5mm - 1200, 98 x 79.5mm http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/ ... 0%2009.htm

Re: 1200?
I've been thinking about this engine in the TRX aswell, not that I'll be able to o anything about it for about 18 ish years... But, in theory the TRX frame should be the easiest thing in the world to fit another engine too, its steel so you can chop and weld to your hearts content and the bottom half of the frame is an aluminium cradle that could be a machined block to suit what ever was going to show horned in place. You'd probably struggle with an inline 3+ cylinder, not sure how wide the super ten engine is but theres nothing in the rule book to say you couldn't make the frame a little wider to suit...
I say go for it

a squarer motor yes? in theory that should rev harder?dandywarhol wrote:Don't be discouraged laaaad - it it could fit then Coxy would make it fit!

all just thoughts, I would probably build a new TRX from scratch rather than pull my 900 to bits. its never let me down and has impeccable manners.
just need to find a totalled super ten for a grand and I will make it happen

If I could choose an engine to go in I would have a look at a vfr800 pre V tech lump.Mincehead wrote:A TL1000 motor will fit `within` the TRX frame.
you can get those quite cheap, and you can make them sound like motogp bikes, just need to see if it would fit in the frame

Re: 1200?
Long stroke, which the 1200 has, should give good torque. The more over square the motor the revvier, producing more power. Have a look at F1 engine bore and stroke and why they rev so high.
Shorter stroke means lower piston speed (less travel) therefore will allow higher revs. Basically power is torque times revs, the higher the revs, the torque is done in a faster time and produces more power .
Lesson over

Re: 1200?
Sorry I got the bore and stroke measurements back to front. It's all about maximum piston velocity I believe.(edit sorry you already said this - never read it properly on my phone!) Longer stroke make bigger piston speeds for the same revs.
Maybe I should look into the trx/vfr800 hybrid. 120bhp would be a lovely power figure for the road. I wonder how heavy the very engine and swingarm is.

Re: 1200?
Funny its switched to a honda V4, I was actually thinking about an ST1100 lump and drive train, maybe not motogp spec but plenty of torque and i'm sure with half a tonne of fairing removed you'd get some grin inducing poke.
