ThunderCat Forks on TRX - updated question

Post by Mav617 » Mon May 16, 2016 8:53 am

Hi all,

Managed to blag a set of Thundercat forks - anyone know whether they should be dropped a few mm through the yokes? My standard TRX forks are dropped through about 5mm, same for the TCat ones?

Like the standard ones, you can pull them through 1.5 or 2cm or just leave them as they are.. It's personal choice really ;)

Do I need spacers for the TRX front wheel? I was under the impression they weren't needed, but reading elsewhere it seems they are??

You need spacers for the wheel and for the calipers as well. I can post a drawing of those tomorrow.

The cat forkes are definitely longer by 18 mm methinks but I can check that tomorrow and tell you how far you have to pull them through the yokes for standard ground clearance.

Cheers

Thanks HK - calipers I am using are R6 Blue Spots, not TRX.

board attachment quota has been reached

Maybe you'll send me your email address and I'll send the drawing this way...

For mounting of the calipers (I use R1 / R6 calipers as well) you will need 1.8 mm spacers too.

Cheers Felix

sign up for a photobucket account or similar, upload your pictures there and post links here, this eliminates that problem and saves on hosting overhead

Took me forever but here it comes...

The spacer on the left must be placed between speedo and left fork leg, the other part replaces the original spacer on the right.

Got hold of a TCat spindle which included the standard right spacer, now I just need the left one making up.

Just hijacking the thread.... I have Tcat forks and need to do the seals. In Haynes it specifies 10w oil for the standard forks, should I assume (as a starting point) to use the same. As far as I'm aware the Tcat forks are standard.
Thanks.

Mav, how did the forks work out? Was it a simple plug and play with the old TRX bits or was there a lot of fiddling to make the t'cat forks work? I've got some early R6 conventional forks but i can't find anyone to bore the yokes out to 43mm, plus I'd loose the speedo drive, so considering options.
