Which Engine would fit an 850?

Post by loper » Tue Aug 04, 2015 6:42 pm

Hey all sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum.

Recently acquired a TRX for a knockdown price and later found out why, its because the condos have disintegrated inside the engine and ripped bits out of all the insides.

I then realised that spare TRX and TDZ engines were a) rare b) expensive.

So the question is, is there anything that would nicely fit into the trx frame?

All/any help appreciated.

Loper

G'day Loper,

Might help if people knew where abouts in the world you are to assist you in finding a motor.

Cheers,
Stu

I thought about this after I read your thread. I reckon you'd be better off pull the whole bike apart. Sell the parts separately and buy a whole road going bike.....unless......you really like the idea of a different engine in there and are prepared to do all the modifications necessary to complete it. A Hyosung GTR650 motor may go in there. ER-6n. VFR750 maybe. The tape measure at the wreckers will tell you more.

If you find a TRX engine, it'll be £3-400.
Obvious choice and close relative is a TDM engine, but they may not be any more obtainable than a TRX engine.
Maybe an XTZ750 engine? Again a close relative.
Only TRX with another engine I have ever seen is one with an XS engine of some sort.
I'd maybe break the bike and start again, as has been suggested.

I put a TDM900 engine in mine, which is probably the easiest non trx engine to go in, and it looks pretty stock.

If I was going to consider something else i would have loved to have had a go at fitting the engine out of a VFR800 in it. I have no idea whether or not that is doable however. I suspect there will be a lot of modification to the frame and rear cradle required.

Always thought the nuda 900 R..100 hp.. would run well . The drive is on the right side ..so likley need to fit the same swing as well.

Those figures on the Nuda (spec 104Hp ) are horsepower at the crank and can easily be matched with a TRX with a little work.(fcr's pipes and ignition)
There's a lot of us here on the forum with 90Hp and more at the rear wheel which is around the same as the Nuda to the back wheel.
Weight for weight the TRX can easily match it too as they are 196kg wet with their 13L fuel tank.

So with those figures above a TRX can easily match the power to weight.

110-116Hp rear wheel is a common figure on a TRX race bike.

The Nudas squeeze 104Hp rear wheel with an upgraded chip/ power commander and exhaust so find another couple of grand for those too.

I could see you paying a pretty penny for the BMW/Rotax motor from a Nuda. Plus the wiring and fuel injection.

I've turned into a bit of a 270 degree crank addict. A 1200 super tenere would be fanciful and expensive. Will involve a whole heap of chopping and changing. Especially with the shaft drive...
If only Yamaha made this TRX in 2015 with a lighter engine, chain drive super sport.
It is time to rev your hearts!
