Standard Mirror Extensions

Post by Overlord Neil » Wed Jul 15, 2015 8:04 am

My mirrors give me a great view of my elbows, are there any longer reach mirrors (from another bike?) or well known mods that can be direct mounted to give a bit more reach?

I've seen a few cafe racer style bar end mirrors but I need to do quite a bit of tight filtering so don't really want the bars to be much wider.

You could fit some spacers between mirror mount and fairing and use longer bolts. This only gives a small amount extra. I put about 12mm in when i had a road bike.

Hi Neil!

Mirrors from a SV 650 S/ SV 1000 S (with the edgy framework, not the round one) are fitting in the mounting 'foot' of the original mirrors.
They are a bit longer and (to me) look good on the TRX.

Recommended greetings from Munich!

Thanks Holer, I suspected something would fit. Have you fitted a set yourself, do you have any pics?

Hey, I'm new here. I've just become the proud owner of a 1996 TRX.
Pretty much the first thing I did with It was to sort out the mirrors, luckily I share a workshop with a chap who has a laser cutter so I made up a bunch of 6mm black perspex riser/ stand offs for my mirrors.
I'm pretty pleased with how they worked out, because they stack you can chuck in as many as you need to get around your shoulders, I ended up with 7 plus some black abs washers in between for a total length of 50mm.

Here are a couple of pictures https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing

If anyone likes the look of them I can get a bunch made pretty easily for a small fee for materials and machine time ect..

Cheers D

with a bit more plastic you could make the shape more like an aerodynamic wing like the moto gp wing so kill to birds with one stone.
Cobb from brisbane will need a set to keep his front wheel down with his extra HP

Hello, domwarman.

They certainly look unique and I'm definitely interested. I was on the verge of finding someone to make me some aluminium extenders but I'd like to try yours first if you decide to make some.
I'd appreciate it if you could put me down for a set!

:)

Cheers.

Hey wreckage,

I actually have a bunch spare from the first batch, I think we cut 20. I ended up only using five on a side plus the washers for the gaps. I'll check how many there are in the workshop tomorrow and let you know. Also I got some countersunk bolts in there too, looks much better now. Cheers for the interest.

Here's my idea for mirror extensions.

I was thinking just blocks of aluminium, but these days 3D printing is an option too. If anybody out there knows any contacts in Brisbane who may have the gear to price these, I'd be interested.

The angle of the TRX mirrors would make these almost horizontal, if you wanted them that way. Of course, the angle and length can be changed to whatever is optimal for the individual. Obviously, rectangular ones with straight-through bolts would also work.

Whaddaya think?
