if you rotate the rear tyre and make you measurements as different point in the rotation you can eliminate any error due to using te tyre for alignment.
Using the rim is difficult as with a tyre on the rim you don't have a clear line of sight

Re: YZF/THUNDERACE SWINGARM CONVERSION
Measure square down from your frame to find centre of your std Trx swing arm and centre of rim.
Use these points as your references for centring any swing arm/wheel changes.
If running a different swingarm and wheel, just align the centre of your new rim and space your swingarm to suit.
Again if you choose to use a yzf750 5.5" rim on a std TRX850 swingarm,
Your rim centres will be fine fitting from rear brake side, just your sprocket side is offset a further 6mm.(and the issue of bearing/axle size will need to be addressed) Done this option too which Udaysen now has for 1 of his TRX's.
So you need to machine the clutch hub/sprocket face to deal with this.
In Essence ..
The yzf750 hub itself is 6mm wider but this extra width is all on the sprocket side.
On the brake side of the hub where your rear disc bolts to, the same dimension from centre of rim to outer hub is the same as the std Trx hub.
It a lot more practical than spending money every time your expensive offset sprocket wears out or you choose to change gearing.
On your yzf swingarm/wheel centre your rim first by spacing/machining your swing arm pivot, then align sprockets by removing the sprocket retaining studs from the clutch hub, machine down the face the sprocket sits on and bobs your uncle.
The 5.5" Dymag rear I run now in the std swingarm is centred and sprocket alignment is dealt with in exactly the same way by manipulating the sprocket on the clutch hub(sprocket carrier all be being a slightly different arraignment but same theory)

It's an option and they have their place but there are other practical ways of addressing the challenge at hand in this situation.
Just like politics, some people love trade unions, others loath them but they have their place.
