Thanks Corners - all back together, wheeled it out of the garage, all my riding clobber on, hit the starter, catches first hit but dies, hit the starter a second time and all the lights go out.....wheel it back in the garage. Pulled the seat off to check all of the fuses incl the 2 x 30amp, all OKpreload - 4
rebound - 16 clicks anti clockwise from fully turned in
fast compression - 3 turns anti clockwise from fully turned in
slow compression - 16 clicks anti clockwise from fully turned in
base settings taken from a 2008 R6 handbook.

Re: What shock fits?
By no means a straightforward swap, but I used a '98-'02 Yamaha R6 (model designation 5EB I think, It was was a year ago
)
This particular rear unit is approx 45mm shorter than a TRX unit. I pressed out the lower needle roller and replaced it with a 0.002" interference fit stepped bush. I made a pair of 6mm thick extended side arms drilled at the top end to press onto ech side of my stepped bush. The side arms were drilled at their lower end to accept the standard TRX shock bottom bolt.
I TIG welded the stepped bush in the R6 bottom eye an also welded the arms to the stepped bush. Hey Presto! An extremely cost effective fully adjustable rear damper fitted for not much more than the £45 for the very low mliage, little used early R6 rear unit. As an added bonus the R6 spring is a little harder than the standard TRX one and is just right for my lardy 94kg.
The bike now rides, steers and handles wonderfully
with the rear mods linked to R6 43mm right way up forks fitted with 0.95kg/mm (or were they 0.95N/mm
) uprated springs. I even managed to retain the standard cable driven speedo by boring out a 20mm CBR600 speedo drive gearbox to 22mm to suit the R6 front wheel spindle. Speedo accuracy is even spot on (say give or take 5%)
Mark.

Re: What shock fits?
Sorry to high jack the tread
No, the battery appears OK. Tests at 12.5v so even with a collapsed cell I should at least get dash lights and a dim headlight. When I said "all the lights go out" I meant ALL..... headlight , tail light, dash lights - completely dead which is why I went looking for the 30amp fuse. I remember Kev's bike suffering the same fate one sunny Sunday morning which kept us guessing for an hour or so.
Kev (howdy stranger),
Sourced new 30amp fuse(s), will install tonight but not confident. Next option is the ignition switch. Is the one still on the wreck? Speaking of which, TRXless_Glen wants the donk out of his shed some time. Might have to call around for a Xmas Ale to retrieve it.
Ash,Battery's dead?????.

Re: What shock fits?
Scott, I would try another battery and see if that works. The battery probably needs a load (e.g. lights etc) on them, is when they cry enough.sherlock wrote:Sorry to high jack the tread

Re: What shock fits?
sounds like one of them 30 amp fuses just might be handy to keep in the tool role in with the spare joining link.
I know i noticed today when I was about to head off and done the reg. check .....brake lights stuck on.. rear brake pedal switch doesn't like the wet weather so quickly disconnected to get me mobile again... It's been a bit temprimental for a while. got one of those in amongst your spares KEV???

It doesn't work because the shock reservoir fouls on the swingarm brace.Reddog wrote:am i tooo late to join in?
