More clocks
Just finished giving my TR the cafe racer look, nothing too radical, just ditched the ugly fairing, fitted a nice chrome headlight & chrome brackets, polished the forks & wheel rims and fitted a set of bar end mirrors. But the standard clocks dont't look to good ontop of the headlight and I'm looking for a nice aftermarket clocks. But my TR is an early black engined Japanese import and I understand the standard speedo has something to do with the limiter, and Im not sure what type clocks to get.Has anyone got an info that migh help. Thanks

Yea I've read that before about the limiter though I have seen plenty of TRX's with aftermarket clusters fitted such as the Acewells etc.

Re: More clocks
You need an M-max or POSH Firm derestrictor box (they plug into the speedo wiring behind the clocks) or a non-Japan spec CDI to get around the restriction. The easiest way is to use a different CDI.steveng wrote:Just finished giving my TR the cafe racer look, nothing too radical, just ditched the ugly fairing, fitted a nice chrome headlight & chrome brackets, polished the forks & wheel rims and fitted a set of bar end mirrors. But the standard clocks dont't look to good ontop of the headlight and I'm looking for a nice aftermarket clocks. But my TR is an early black engined Japanese import and I understand the standard speedo has something to do with the limiter, and Im not sure what type clocks to get.Has anyone got an info that might help. Thanks

Re: More clocks
The magic box only works if you keep the original Japanese speedo, if you replace it with an MPH one (or even something else entirely) the limiter still comes in at 7K, box or no box. No idea on why that is though.Kayla wrote:[You need an M-max or POSH Firm derestrictor box (they plug into the speedo wiring behind the clocks) or a non-Japan spec CDI to get around the restriction. Easiest way is a green-stickered CDI, plug and play with no restrictions in place. Keep watching ebay for a reasonably priced item!
'95 4NX with K&N filter, Motad Venom cans, YSS PD valves, Ohlins fork springs, 530 C+S, Green CDI, 11/16 radial master cylinder, +30mm jack up dog bones. Enjoyable money pit.

Re: More clocks
No it doesn't. You need the electronics that are in the original speedo and plug the derestrictor into that. I've it on my (Japanese import) FZR400s. If you can be bothered to take one apart, once the electronics are out and put somewhere safe on the bike you can bin the clocks. But yes, as we've both said, the easiest way is to use a non-Japanese CDI.Snod Blatter wrote:The magic box only works if you keep the original Japanese speedo, if you replace it with an MPH one (or even something else entirely) the limiter still comes in at 7K, box or no box. Re: More clocks
Thanks to you all for info.I'll probably hang on till I get a CDI,I'm in no rush.I took a gamble last year and bought the TR for £500,it was running, but was really
tatty, but I knew it had been serviced regularly, including oil & filter change, and though I had to change the cam chain, the rest of the engine, box, clutch, brakes, and everything else, are fine,so I've painted the frame black and beacause the fairing was damaged, decided to give the cafe racer look.It looks good for now,but to make it look really nice I need the clocks, decent tank & rear pannel, but they can waite until the winter.
Apart from a Kawaski GZP900,that never ever ever ran properly and quite litteraly broke down every time I took it out,my previous bike was a Norton Commando 850,(see the conection),which I had for five year and never broke down,or leaked oil.But I got the TR on the road last week and am suprised to find its every bit as good, infact better, than the Norton, and beacause Im no speed merchant,I've not got near 7000 revs and still feel as though its got plenty of power and is fast enough for the way I ride, ontop of that it handles well and sound great. So I'm well pleased.
