I have the same light in my TRX. the original globe is a p30t-40. rare as around here and pretty expensive when you can find them. I can give you the part number of the rubbers on the back of the fzr400 headlight, it's 3TJ-84397-00, same as the 93 fzr600. looking forward to see how you go with the hid conversion. would like to do something similar to mine. cheers, Adam

Hey M.V,

I know that you are going to convert the unit over to HiD, this is one of the rubber headlight covers that are on my FZR400R unit... Mine still has the original Koito bulbs 55/40w in it which seem very bright.

hope that helps

Thank you Blue Delta & adamcrofts, very helpful! Now I know what I'm looking for & hopefully how to find it :)

Yes, it will ultimately be HID, either a projector retrofit or some drop in HID globes. The standard globes are also called MH6R:

I definitely need those rear covers, I took the FZR light apart tonight:

get rid of all that dust and you won't need the HID conversion i reckon. definitley need those dust boots if its filling up like that. if you took the light to the wreckers they might be able to match something up from another model. The guys at Vic Wreckers in heidelberg are usually pretty helpful with that sort of thing.

+ 1 - I have the FZR400RR headlight and if you can get a HID to fit, I would love to know the details, I have been toying with making an adaptor to fit a standard H4 bulb - but if I can get an HID

I ordered some 9005 (HB3) HID bulbs just in case the H4H's don't work & they can be easily modified to suit:

Not sure about the focal point yet, I'll try that out tonight.

Still no word on the H4H's from China...

Some developments... good news & bad.

The 702K (H4H) HID's showed up, the bad news is the focal point is wrong, same as all the other globes. They are a hi/lo type that move the globe up & down, not particularly useful...
Globes 1.JPG
L-R: Original globe, modified HB3, HID 702. Unfortunately, none of the "filaments" line up to where the original filament is. The result is poor light, black spots & unfocussed light
Globes 2.JPG
This is the original 702K & a globe I made using a HB3 base & butchered HB3 HID, haven't tried it out yet, but moving the other globes back to the point where the "filaments" line up works.

So you can convert them to HID, but you'll need to make your own globes. Spacers that move the globe back the right amount could also work.

I'll move forward with this, at the moment the headlight is out & one of the projectors is apart so I can fit the lo beam cut off.

The good news is, the 702K HID globes came with a wiring harness, so now I have everything I need to wire them up :)

Rough testing is showing more light from a single Projector (properly focussed) than my current hi beam, so I think it will be worthwhile.

Edit: Still need some rubber covers, if anyone's got any or a lead, that'd be great!

I've had a look on Partshark & in the UK, but I'm not turning up much... nothing reasonably priced anyway.

Thought I d put my 2 cents worth. I be just finished installing the fzr1000 headlamps and they work well as long as u have the focal point sorted. I used high intensity osram globes from narva. The light output is is way better. Low beam is widespread and well focused. High beam has both lamps on. Need to work on the high beam pointing the right way. Overall better result tha single bulb and looks more sophisticated than the staid Orem headlamp.
It is time to rev your hearts!
