Yes, the difference was very noticable to me. The standard forks could not cope with the bumpy roads I frequently ride on, and bumpy corners were a horrorshow.
Changing oil weight and oil height in the standard forks made marginal difference. I'm guessing that different fork springs may have improved them a bit, but as my stanchions were badly pitted and replacement was going to get V expensive I thought 'sod it - switch to T'cat forks'

And I havent even started fiddling with the T'cat forks apart from setting preload! More compliant over bumps already. Compression and rebound changes should improve them even more.

My 2 bobs worth on the subject:

Pre 2001 cartridge forks, regardless of whether they are RSU or USD are an improvement over the standard TRX forks.......just. They really need a re-shim and spring replacement (unless you weigh around 65-70kg). You would need to add this to the cost. These forks standard, are slightly inferior to well setup TRX forks with correct springing and a set of emulators (Racetech, Promecha,YSS etc). The advantage of cartridge forks over the TRX ones with the above mods are external compression/rebound adjustment.
Post 2001 USD forks have better shimming and heavier springing (should be good for up to a 85kg rider)
