Hey blokes,
I have no doubts the blue spot brakes are a great addition to a trx but I am not sure i really need them. Will simply installing braided brake lines noticeable improve my standard brakes? I don't do any track days so its 100% road riding for me. Has anyone here gone the braided brake lines option with the standard calipers and been happy with the result or should i just splurge on a set of blue spots, braided lines and a 14mm master?

If your happy with what you have then why.. for the price of bluespots and m/cylinder you could upgrade the front suspension if it still has the soft std progressive front springs to some linear springs to suit your weight and riding style. You will certainly notice a difference in handling.. or rebuild or replace the rear if the fronts already been done..

suspension is well sorted by pro-mecha here in Melbourne...front has gold valves and emulators. rear has been done also with +15mm ride height spaced internally... I dont think i need the blue spots but was hoping someone here has braided lines on standard calipers they could give me some feed back on. Is there anything to be gained by just a m/c upgrade?

I've got a pair of forks sorted with emulators from Promech also and it made a big difference to the std units.Great investment I just change to a slightly heavier spring for my trackdays. I'm in the proccess of changing the R6 rear to a rebuilt Ohlins unit from a YZF750 SP so looking forward to compare the two.

I dont know if there is any truth to it but someone told me that the standard trx rear shock is made by ohlins. Yeah, Im very happy with the work done by pro-mecha also...

I think the closest the standard TRX shock got to being made by Ohlins was that statement right there Even the YZF750 SP 'Ohlins' isn't a proper Ohlins, despite the yellow spring and sticker.

Yes,Bane, braided lines would or should be the first stop on your REX, the old old rubber by now will have more cracks there than my grandmother... and just as inflexible.
The TRX original fronts are quite good for your everyday riding, just run some new oil through as the old rubber lines have probably allowed moisture in.
The new lines and maybe a set of pads would see you well.

Thanks Alex, good to know... Is there a preferred brand for the trx? I have seen goodridge on flea-bay or i can get the Hel ones here locally.

Mostly same..same, price might an influence....the braided lines are essentially a hydraulic high pressure line with a stainless woven outer sheath that won't swell like a balloon when under pressure, thereby all or more of the hydraulic pressure will go to where it is needed..ie. better braking.

i have a set of goodridge braided lines from red Rex in the shed . carbon look sheath, stainless fittings, ADR approved.
I retired them when i got R6 bluespots and matching R6 braided lines.

I've just gone for blue spots as after running braided with standard calipers for a while. They''ve never given me much confidence to be honest so hope the blue spots will be better. I'm not a quick rider by the way.

I think that Hel do a braided line with swivel ends so that if you did decide to go down the blue spot route later you could still use the same lines without them twisting.

Is that because you found the standard brakes/braided lines lacking or you
just simply wanted an upgrade?

good to know... I think I will start with the brake lines and evaluate it from there.
