Work In Progress ....

Post by 2TWINS » Thu Aug 09, 2012 3:43 pm

A few jobs completed, but still plenty to go at!

Wheels stripped, blasted and powder coated, new bearings and seals througout.
Replacement front discs and the usual blue spot conversion.
Split in the seat box repaired and re-painted with rattle cans.
Bum pad re-covered
Scorpion end cans
R1 sidestand
New front pegs..............

Looks good.
Why the R1 sidestand: whats the benefit?

The original was worn so the bike was leaning over too far.
The R1 stand is about 20mm longer, so that corrected the problem, simples!!

Any specific model year(s) R1, or simply any R1 sidestand will be 20mm longer than the standard TRX one?

Early models 98 to 02, you can pick them up pretty cheap:

What a superb mod!

Bought a '99 R1 side stand (the very same one in Mince's eBay link), managed to get it fitted today, and what a revelation. It certainly feels better when putting the bike on the side stand, the standard stand kind of felt like it was going that wee bit too far, and getting it onto the paddock stand needed a 15-20mm thick piece of wood under the stand to make it that wee bit easier to get the bike onto the paddock.

The only downside so far is that the heel piece (where you hook your heel onto to get the stand down) is actually underneath the footpeg, so you have to try and hook your heel onto the stand itself and swing it down. Other than that, the stand itself could do with a light sand, and a coat of smooth hammerite/black to spruce it up a bit.
