TDM 900/TRX 850 parts compatability?

Post by markrennie » Wed Jun 20, 2012 9:48 pm

Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows if the tdm 900 crankshaft will fit in the trx engine? i need a new crankshaft and cant find one for shit unless i go for new!! have you seen how much they are. also will the oil tank from this model fit on the trx engine? i would like the oil low warning light function as having low oil whilst racing is the reason i am in this predicament in the first place.
WORD OF ADVISE CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL REGULARLY AS THESE ENGINES ARE JUNK IF THEY RUN LOW AND COST A FORTUNE TO REBUILD.

We are aware, yes.

The oil tank is the same, however you need to swap over the inlet tube, it simply unbolts with two allen head screws.

Spend some time on the forum, the oil light thing has been covered, there's a pretty easy solution.

Some of the later TDM850's had the 270 cranks IIRC, so that should be the same, you'll need to do some digging on the part number though.

I have a crank that may be salvagable, where abouts in the world are you?

This sort of thing might be an option for you, take the motor (possibly crank?) then part out the rest, most of it looks to be in good nick and I am sure there will be a host of bits that are worth a few quid to recoupe some dough.
Really dont know if the cranks or the crank cases are the same though.

On looking a bit further into this it would appear the 96 on models are the ones you are looking for.

He's in the UK so that may not be much use, unfortunately.

Markrennie... maybe you can put your location (or at least country) in your profile? (and all users should make sure they do the same to help in threads like this!)

This is a mk1 TDM with a different crank setup Mk2 from '96 to 2001 is what you want.

@ Dandy,Just for the knowledge, do you know if that crank would work and what other parts would need changing? I presume cams, would this route be feasable???

I'm pretty sure the crank and cams would work - might be worth a look on carpe tdm to get more info - the man who would know is Dapleb. http://www.carpe-tdm.net/ipb/
