Singapore has the worlds best lane splitters,
These guys are world champs at it, although the statistics prove that at least in Singapore it can be a health hazard to ride motorcycles.
Roughly 25% of the vehicles registered are bikes but 55% of road deaths are bike related, the figures are from memory and may not be entirely accurate, but are close. All types of bikes from the Accountant on the Harley looking cool, to BMWs and all.
Beijing is in fact a complete opposite, as far as I saw.
I saw 2,yes 2, motorcycles, I saw hundred of scooters and a vast collection of little electric bikes, but only 2 real bikes. and one was, of all things a Ducati Diavel.
I believe that there has been a crackdown on all sorts of bikes in China.
Beijing to me was a polluted, overcrowded, dirty city. One mother walked her young girl child out of a shop so the kid could piss on the footpath by the shop entrance, classy. we were there 3 days and never saw the sun once, it was there but could not pierce the inversion layer. Actually I fib, we did see it on the last day at about 15000ft as we were flying out.
We did all the tourist trips like to the Forbidden City, which the locals must have not gotten the memo cause it was bloody packed. I mean there was thousands there, very interesting place... once I guess. then of course the obligatory meal in a genuine Chinese Restaurant. complete with menu items in English such as Sautéed Bullfrog and Roasted ducks blood. One complete block was taken up with stalls selling food such as scorpion, snake, whatever. Our taxi driver coming in from the Airport did say not to eat there, bad place he said. Didn't see to many dogs around the place... wonder why? Those we did see looked very concerned.
Next the Great Wall, impressive bit of gear the wall, it streches for a bloody long way and took 1600 years to construct. Men spent their whole lives building the wall cause if they wanted to apply for some other occupation, there was none, you became a wall builder or the Emperor killed you.
We went up to the wall on a cable lift which was fun, but even betterer fun was the return to road level , you could either come back down in the cable lift or you could ride down in on of those toboggan things. I was all ready to do the toboggan run down but it started to rain so that buggered it up somewhat.
So Pictures, bye the way the mist in these pictures is in fact not, its pollution.
