Carb diaphragm breather tube!

Ok, gent and ladies, i have just rebuilt my carbs and was shocked at the amount of crap in the carb on the lower side of the piston diaphragm This is fed by the two large dia tubes, these have a course mesh filter to keep out the bugs and that's about it! i would not normally be concerned about these thing, BUT, this crap gets trapped on the slide and aides in the overall wear and tear there is also a small (1.4mm) pilot air jet in here that could easily be clogged up with crap NOT happy Jan!

My initial solution….stoped the tank from seating


Two crankcase breathers, and shortened tubes, works well and they sit against the rubber tubes so no noise or damage!

Check out sheet filter foam, a small piece cut out and squeezed into them will sort it and cheaply too :

Periodically fit a new pice as it will clog over time.

a noise suppressor for pnuematic systems is a cheap and quality fix here.
Festo, SMC and the like, large bearing stockists, etc.
Do yourself a real favour and replace 'em with FCRs!

I remember once my bike wouldnt run right so I got a mechanic mate to have a look.

When I asked what was wrong, he said Crap in the carburettor.

So I asked him how often I had to do that.

Thanks, I needed that just about spat my coffee all over the keyboard, I'm now sure that some went up my nose all i9 can smell is coffee

had the same in my carbs last time i was in there...pretty sure its the dust from the plastic diaphram slides as they are being whacked back and forth....
Yep..its just plastic dust
when i collected to dust and wondering what it was....and a plastic welding trick...just burn it and see what it does...,,found it was plastic dust..the same type of plastic that the slide was made of...

This looks, feel and tastes like tyre rubber I don't have a rear hugger and the rear of the engine gets a coating of the same black rubbery stuff after a good ride. Anyway it's not ideal having the lower side of the diaphragm open to the elements, any method to keep the interanls of the carb clean is going to increase the service intervals

the diaphram is made of rubber big fella..
and its right there .....start the bike and look down the carbs to see the slides working..
its the diaphram working back and forewards....hence the plastic or rubber dust in the end cap....its end cap ...crap..!!

Yep it made from Neoprene and is not the source of the crap in my carbs, the diaphragm is not perished or in anyway degraded the rubber granules are also coating the inlet side of the course filter I'll bring it on the 20th and we can all have a taste test, cook-up and friction test

Can fix that Rod with a couple of those little filters up each nostril
