what is the engine life on one of these little bikes, went to view a 96 one tonight with 35000 miles on the clock looked quite tatty which does'nt bother me too much as I will be pulling it apart to work on any way he was looking around £1400 think I might get him down a 100 or 2

How long is a piece of string?
It all depends on how the bike has been maintained and used.
An example of 2 TRX's I know of. One was used as a courier, always on the road and regularly maintained, it has now 220,000klm's on it and still going strong (with about 1 litre of oil usage per 5000klm's. The other was an abused example, irregular servicing, flogged at race days and used as short (10klm) daily trips to work. It needed rings, pistons, cam, camchain and tensioner,valves and seat replacement at 35,000klm's.

As another example, mine is a'96 model, has 71,500km's on it. I have had it since 55,000km's, and I do mostly commuting of 15-80km's per trip, depending where I'm working on the day. Goes through a bit of oil, maybe a few hundred ml's every thousand km's or so, but never misses a beat.

me and my brother bought a s reg<1998> red and black vgood cond cant remember exact milage 15000 ish no mot but passsed first time for £800 so dont rush into it some bargains out there

so they are typical yamaha strong then, think I will hold of until new year, hope to get a test ride on one this week end, my other bike is an xjr 1300 fancy adding one of these to and no doubt is I get one I wont be able to leave it alone :lol:

ive got a 96 model beastie with 137 000 ks showing now. It uses a litre of oil every 500 ks, but still goes hard. Going for a rebuild when shortly when things get a little less frantic. Dont be put off high mileage bikes AS LONG AS THEY HAVE BEEN LOOKED AFTER!!!!!! :D

Hi,

35000! peanuts.

Bought my 2000 model with 60000 on the clock and have just passed 80000. Been well looked after and used nearly every day by previous owner. You will probably need to change jets/ emulsion tubes in the carbs. If I won the lottery I can't think of another bike I would change it for, just make a few upgrades.
