im from sunny Melbourne, Australia. and im lucky that the weather is good enough to be able to ride all year round. even when it rains.. i just love getting on the bike.
there is only a couple of conditions that i havent ridden in yet. hail/snow
but i got a couple of mates that will only ride during the 'GOOD weather'... which i think is just a little soft of them...

The thing is, here in good old Blighty, they salt the roads. Now, if you even so happen as to show a your bike a picture of a salted road they tend to crumble into a heap of iron oxide. This is not A Good Thing, it is A Bad Thing
My bikes don't get taken off the road for winter, they stay taxed and insured just in case there's a nice day and I fancy a potter out, but only when it's dry (ie not that often). It's also fairly unpleasant riding in near-freezing temperatures.
I once, when I couldn't drive, bought a DT125 to use as a winter hack. It was good fun, admittedly, but I used to have to stop halfway to warm my hands on the spanny!

The reason that I defy snow and cold on the bike is only because the traffic jams are even longer during the winter.
But because of the salt, the TRX stays inside! I emptied a spraycan of petroleum jelly (vaseline) on my Tricker, for a little extra protection during the winter season.
When it's really snowy, like in the picture of HansJ, I normally don't have the courage to drive a bike like the TRX or my YZF750, but with the Tricker it will be alright I guess.

Sunny South Africa. No snow. Real bikers ride in the rain as well.

The wind is sometimes bit hectic here... I'm scared of riding in strong wind. I ride, but go real slow then.

Yes, all year round. Only problem with rain, aside from when it freezes, is it makes the car drivers even more shite at operating their vehicles. We don't really get snow here, aside from a light dusting.
Now when I lived in New England, I couldn't ride all the time! Diablos and 3 feet of drifting snow aren't a good combination...

Like Stockholm, but less civilised.

Oh, that's not to mention the temperature falling to 12o fahrenheit(!) during the daytime. Of course, the rest of the year wasn't too bad - I only got rained out of a track day once thanks to the continental weather - i.e. sunny, and even if it rains, the tarmac dries out in about 3 minutes. In England that takes a day or so, or 3 if you live in Scotland.
I'm now trying out the fabled Scottoiler FS365, which is supposed to be pretty good at winter-proofing bikes. We shall see!

I use the bike almost every day to get to workand to come home again too. It is only approx 9 ks from home to the yard but during winter when the tempurature sometimes can get down to say a nippy 15 degrees I sometimes need to put on an extra jacket, as it can get a little chilly.
Im teasing, We hardly have a winter.
What we do get a lot of is storms.
I have to say that last week we had what I could only describe as the exquisite storm. The sky went black and the lightning lit the sky constantly for about 20 mins or so. We must have gotten up to 70/80 mils of rain in that 20 mins, and I was driving in it.
Some areas got battered by high winds and there was hail in it as well. The hail is always desribed as being "the size of a golf ball" but regardless of its size, it makes a god awful noise when it hits your vehicle to say nothing of the damage it does.
Despite all of this going on, I was passed by a Police Motorcyclists who would have been doing 130 or so, the roads were awash, but that didnt stop him, pretty impressive stuff, he was probably looking for a bridge to park under.

Hi FNTIM!
I used to drive in the winter, too, but this was in the days when I got no other choice ...
Although drifting with an AE 80 was quite fun
But when we have conditions like two years ago (when the picture was taken) I think it's better to be on four wheels, if on any.
The snow in the picture came down within an hour
Snow awaiting greetings from Munich!

Anything that's vaguely difficult to keep upright in snow/ice gets left in the garage.... then the KTM comes out to play...

I ride all year round .
I must say though that I don't like the rain or wind , and only ride in them if I get caught.
I am a very keen surfer and usually leave a bike ride until after I have a surf as it gives me a better idea of what the weather is going to do.
Here on the south coast of New South Wales the weather is fairly kind and predictable.
I like to ride at every opportunity.
The last time I got caught in the rain was on my way back from the North Coast , and it only lasted for about 20 mins wich was not enough to warrant putting the wet weather pants on , but it sure made a mess of the bike .
I feel sorry for all those on the forum that have to lay their bikes up over winter as I am lucky to be able to ride all year round without any real hassle.
I wonder if I lived in the UK wether I would be able to stay off trixie like you guys do ?
I doubt it very much.
I'm sure you guys know what I mean .

I ride all year round but I don't rely on the bikes for commutting or anything like that so have the luxury of only taking the bike out when I want to. Been there and done that with a bike being my only form of transport
