Care of Carbon cans.

Post by Kais » Fri Nov 07, 2008 1:50 am

Now that I've alienated all the male "Rex" riders in the Continent and Great Britain,in Tristan post, I have a question for the girls and Trixie riding males! Hahahahaha forgive me guys!

I am fortunate to have a set of Over pipes and carbon(Over),and I'd like advice on how to clean and polish the carbon cans?

At the moment mine are a bit dull and I'd like to bring them "up" a bit. I have some plastic polish (plexus) which does wonders for the fairing glass and frame, I wonder if that's safe to use on carbon cans?

The stainless of the pipes is like wise in need of some TLC. I've buffed the headers and collector with emery paper and progressively finer abrasive paper but I now need to buff a shine into these, suggestions please?

With friendly greeting from the far flung colonies of Terra Australis.

As a wise man once suggested to me, simply re-seal with two or three coats of Cabot's Marine grade exterior gloss. Worked wonders.

Hi Kais!

Like for any plastics I use Image for my Termignoni carbon cans - very recommendable!

Shining greetings from Munich!

Thanks Sherlock, that look nice, and seeing as we are both from here I should be able to buy Cabots from somewhere we can both identify, a boating outlet I'd imagine.

HolerTogni, Danke kamerad.

MFG Kais.
...........

Still no revelations on how to restore the shine on the headers and collector/balance chamber?
Friendly Terra Australis greetings.

Probably the cheapest and easiest is a can of silcone spray. Works on everything except seat, tires and brakes (unless you just want to look at them) and won't hurt a fly.

Not only that, but it keeps goop from sticking so washing is easier next time.

I've used pallets of the stuff over the years. Try to find the "dry" type if you don't feel like wiping off the excess.
