Ok, so i picked up twin projector job, (missing 1 rubber :x & 1 dead bulb) but not sure i like it! so do i put up with it and grab a new bulb or thought shoving an HID in the standard unit - unless theres a way of doing it to the projector??

Secondly, fancy getting the wheels tarted up, aerocoat do a nice chrome but could be a bit too bling for trixy, also thought of white but gets cruddy too quick, maybe silver to match the frame ? its the red 1 with silver frame/motor & black fork bottoms any thoughts constructive or otherwise will do :)

Cheers folks.

pics added as per req :)

What I understand of it, is that the twin-projector-headlight is for japanese models only. The bulbs that goes into it, are uncommon, hard to get and (therefore) very expensive. But, I have to admit, I like the looks of it too!
So putting in a HID kit is exactly what I would do. Should not be too hard, H1 bulbs are rather small for example. Just figure something out to hold the HID-bulb in place, it will not fit perfectly.

Can you provide some codes or numbers from the headlight? Is there anything printed on it?

Hi Tarwetijger,

you're bang on about them bulbs, made by Koito the same people who made the original unit by the looks of it
Image

The only numbers are 110-31672 on the back of the rubber cover and on the glass front of the unit.

As for the bulbs, so far found a manufacturer code on the www. MH6R - 0488, physically the locating tags are in the same
places and are the same size as for a standard H4, the diameter of the mounting plate where the lugs are is 42.2mm on H4
and 29.6mm on the FZR Bulb, filament placement is very different to the H4, the FZR bulb has them mounted parallel to each
other at 27mm and 28mm from the base plate also the 28mm filament is off centre by 2mm (for dipped beam?)

So basically i'm stuck with having to locate and mod some dipping H1 HID's, anyone else got any input on the UK MOT legalities
of using these? someone's got em fitted i'm sure.

Yes they're frigging pricey little buggers, found 3 places that do em 16.50 was the best price, p&p to go on that,
wont be much dearer to go HID, kinda depends on what others have found come MOT time at the moment.

as I understand it, no aftermarket HID is legal.

Though you could probably get away with it if you explained the situation, or asked first.

Well youngy is right, checked it somewhere t'other day and it's 100% that HID's are not legal unless fitted to a unit designed for them - i know that doesnt mean we cant do it and get away with it though  also looking at it logically with regards to filament placement the beam pattern would be off too and that combined with the odd poxy bulb size well anyway going put that on the back burner for now with thoughts towards maybe visiting a local scrappy and see what cars are about with hid's, if i can be arsed that is.

I have a more pressing issue with the wheels as the current tyres are about pooped so i need to get the spares coated and rubbered up ready but I'm still not sure what colour  i know i said white gets carped up too quick but looking at a few pics white does seem to go well, haven't ruled out silver as yet either though!

And Well done Max for getting the site back so quick =D>

Good for having no(t yet) technical inspections in the Netherlands for motorcycles 8)
(although when I look into the regulations, the beam must be within the measurements and that's it, should it come to a yearly inspection  )

So my HID can and will be fitted :D

Oh dear :) ^^

While i'm here, finally taken the wheels into Aerocoat for powdercoating :D all the chrome stuff looks very nice as do the Candies and two tones, even had a Black over coated with metal flake whick looked errm unusual but in a sort of nice way but i'm 99% sure i'm going for a Silver to match the frame, well i'm hoping it's gonna look ok at £50+ per wheel
