Hi!
Its´s build by Theo Laaks (germany). The engine does not work for a "longtime" the bore is just too big for the Yamaha 850 engine... so there is not often a 916cc engine... the 878cc is the "most" serious to tune up.
There exist a Video-DvD: Helmut Däne rides a Laaks TRX920 on "the Ring" (Nürburgring)... crazy and fantastic
Ciao!
Heinz
P.S.: I don´t think its Diopa bodywork... also could be a modified YZF750 (thats what i remember...)

Actually found the video on DVD in an online auction with the hefty top bid of 2€!

This biek has been discussed before - perhaps not on this forum?
I've asked loads of questions about that bike and never had any replies. Mainly because I don't believe the quoted figures - try comparing those figures to a Ducati 916, 996, SP1 etc!
To my mind overboring the 850 engine 5mm is a recipe for disaister.
JE pistons do a 878 kit and Over do (or did) an 870 - nothing bigger because anything more leaves the lining walls to thin. Think QT also rebored his to take TDM 900 slugs but I would even say that was too thin.

Miss on that, states 41´s in a paperarticle.
Although, that article also states the bike as 880cc (prob. the JE 878)

If it's 880 then I really don't believe the HP claims.
From what i can see tuning wise, that bike is broadly the same spec as mine but makes 20hp more! Somewhat unlikely I'd suggest.

Could it have actually been a TDM donk. Even still HP figure for that sounds high. Race fuel maybe?

concidering it has 6 gears, id say its a TDM..
As for boring out my block to take 900cc.. The walls are slightly THICKER than stock sleeves..
Yes the actual "cylinder block" is thinner on the inside, but they are location + water cooling only.
They guide the sleeve in, then theres a big open space in the middle, and a bit at the bottom again.. Think of giant wine barrel, thats bowed in the middle, the sleeve fits into it like that.. yes its weird..
In a few weeks ill post results of when i finally move house / get my engine together and fit the EFI on it.. Yup, im going injected !! so i think a few ppl will be interested in how to do it..
PS: i dont believe the ~120hp unless there is some seriously expensive race fuel in there or ethanol or something.. Yes i believe its possible, but could it be a typo ?
