You use the original clipons or an aftermarket steering bar?

Honda VFR750 1988 to 1997 clipons are 41mm diameter same fork diameter as TRX850s and give a better rise and are cheap as chips second hand. Alternately use the standard TRX850 clipons and have an alloy collar machined up which needs to be 19mm tall and a matching spacer tube for the locating bolt (new longer cap screw required). this lifts the bars up enough to just clear the fairing. The standard cables etc will still work.

The longer screw and distance tube is not needed - the clamping alone is sufficient as also already said in the linked post.

Without the allocating screw possible damage to the fuel tank from the (too) rigidly mounted handle bars can be avoided in case of laying the bike on its side.

I did the handlebar conversion yesterday L to R and R to L. Make sure you just move the clamping boss and refit the handlebar back on the same side that way the drilled locating holes for mounting controls all lineup. Easy conversion with all the hoses and cables still able to be used. Will take it for a ride this week to see how it goes.

I'm new to the forum having recently bought a TRX 850 and I don't really understand the alloy collar option, can you please provide a litttle more detail or maybe photos if that's not too much trouble.

Be very careful placing the RH clip on on the left side and visa versa .
The ergonomics are not good especially for those over the age of 40 and vulnerable to rotor cuff tears.
Reversing the clip ons rolls the shoulders inwards , shortening the pecs, and the area where your nerves and tendons run across your shoulder to your arm are compressed and will eventually cause inflammation and you’ll start to feel pain radiating down your forearms.
