Hi. I bought an engine off ebay, described as a TRX. The engine code begins 4UN, and when one piston is at TDC the other is slightly behind. So far, so TRX. However, the gear selector shaft is about an inch shorter than that on my old (knackered) engine. I know 2nd generation TDMs had staggered cranks but their engine code is different. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Re: gear change selector shaft length.
The outgoing shaft from gearbox?
Someone cut it because the locknut siezed or gearbox is knackered and it's pushed further in (if that's possible even).

I know the TDM has a different gear lever setup but not sure if the shaft is any different..?

TDM gear selector shaft is definitely shorter than the TRX one....... Had to swap them over when I fitted a TDM engine to mine.

Re: gear change selector shaft length.
Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I think I've figured out what the differences mean. I remember the vendor saying he had run the engine in a TDM. I assume the changes I found are those necessary to make a TRX engine work in a TDM rolling chassis. Obvious, I suppose. Wish he (the vendor) had thought to mention the changes, as it would have saved me a bit of head-scratching. It's simple enough to switch the gear lever shaft over, but I'll start it up first (once I've swapped the engine over) to see if the engine is any good or not.
