Are trx engine cases interchangeable or are they matching pairs??

interchangeable ....but, the top case has the data required for its corresponding crank bearings engraved on the back/top side. So if you ever require a crank rebuild, you'll be potentially in the shit

It's just a simple process of placing the shells into the case that you already have.
If the original case tells you it's green, just place them back in the new case with the crank and plastiguage them to find out if the clearance is within spec.
If ever you remove the crank even with the original cases, you should plastiguage all the crank bearing anyhow. This is one of the major factors in maintaining good healthy oil pressure.
