Sacrilege

Post by SDN » Sun Nov 27, 2016 6:36 am

Hi all, am considering selling my beloved Rex! It was featured in Practical Sports bikes and is a looker. It has loads of toys and extras including Ohlins shock, YZF750 swing arm, rear wheel and hugger, R1 rear end, LED tail and no plate light, single seat hump + pillion spare, R1 rear caliper, R1 front end, blue spots, braided brake lines, white faced speedo /clocks, FZR400RR twin headlight, custom leavers and brake reservoir, good Michelin RP4s, FCR41s, TTS ported head, Kent cams, Ignitech ignition and a projection comp exhaust with Termigloni end cans. Finished with a custom red over black paint job. It is a very pretty sorted bike.

Questions - a) got any ideas what I could get for it? b) anyone interested? If so PM offers, c) should I put a lot of the original bits on and sell all the go faster bits - carbs, exhausts etc separately? d) best place to flog it - if I do? It's quite a wrench and I may just keep it as I will find it hard to part with. Advice would be appreciated, oh yes and have loads of spares.

Strip it and sell all the bits n pieces, then sell the motor as a running motor and you won't be half shy of a hefty sum.

Would be interesting to the cash generated with your list of upgrade if sold separately SDN.
Remembering the last Rex that I've heard of being sold of in spares was the venerable Kevintrx849 or the red machine in the above header photo.
From my memory, I think it generated about 5 grand as parts and his extra parts as well.
I bought a couple of parts too.
I've often wondered in selling my machine for parts as well.....

Full YZF750 sp front, new discs With gold spots and carbon fender.
HID headlight and stone protector
Perfect front fairing with digital Acewell enhanced clock set
Perfect tank
Perfect tail assembly with origional seat
FCR41 carb set with ram air filters and well tuned.
Ignitec ignition
LED indicators and recessed tail light.
Alloy hinged tail top seat cover colour coded.
Power bronze lower engine belly pan/colour coded.
Engine has 60,K kilometres with a flowed head, reseated standard valves and repainted..iridium plugs
Projection components 2-1 exhaust headers with an Akrapovic Carbon end can
OHLINS trx rear shock assembly
And the VFR800 rear single sided rear swing assembly with 5 spoke vfr wheel ..and the rc36 8 spoke wheel with sorted rear caliper /.. braided brake line.

Also a full set of trx body panels in very good condition.

Also a blue/silver spare trx 850 in very good unmolested cond.

Now there's a thought.

If you can find someone willing to pay way over the street price for a well sorted 20 year old bike, then go for it.
However, you'll still likely make more by putting it back closer to stock and selling the bling bits separately.
All bikes like this suffer the same problem when it comes to selling. They're worth more as parts than as a whole because hardly anyone would shell out the dollars to pay what you think it might be worth in its entirety.
Sad to see such a great build get taken apart, but that life.

It would be sad to see a great bike broken for spares, but there again if you sold the bike as a whole package and someone else break it for a whole load more than they paid you for it would be criminal.

Just keep it :)

Thanks for the replies, will keep it until summer and review options. Will probably put it back to standardish engine and keep appearance much the same.

Sell FCRs, Ignitech, projection exhaust possibly fzr750 swinger and wheel and FZR400RR headlight

There again if it will fit along side the Speed Triple I have bought I might keep it!
