Wouldn't it be the same engine series as the GS/GSX 1000/1100? My dad has a gs1000 motor in his F1 sidecar and they were a popular choice for how strong the crank is on them.

Who mentioned the motor????
My comments where about the engineering and geometry of the frame in std format compared to the Trx in std form.
The rigid layout and neutral handling on the Trx is one of its strengths.
Just don't mention the war...

No offence taken Craig.
I too have a soft spot for them too.
A few close friends owned them way back in the dark ages when they were released and the sit in styling started the next generation look of Japanese motorcycles which still holds to this day.

I love ICON bikes, there is a really great Harley Cafe racer called Iron Lung - what a great looking bikealextrx850 wrote:There is a lot of comment on facebook to the actual value of a ninetys sportsbike in a so called mint condition.
But the consensus is ,.a machine is only what someone is prepared to pay for it ..(there's a no brainer..!)...and the bike must have something to make it more desirable than say a new similar machine.
Therefore there is a lot in the upgrade engineering to the old classics which might give a piece of the old and the new...
This Katana is a good example.

My vote is a definate up in value, they will become fashion items as has happened with the old aircooled BMW's. For years they were pretty much worthless, a few hundred quid in the UK or dollars here in Oz now the hipsters are involved it's $4000 for a rebuild turd.

This went cheap in Sydney just recently. The description is pretty funny.

Re: Prices of TRX's
I'm late to the party on this one! But speaking as one of those dreaded hipsters WITH a cafe'd trx. Yes, values will definitely go up for originals. The fact that the trx never sold well new means it has rarity in its favour from the get go. Mine, being a ratted/crashed/rattle canned/eye of the beholder special will probably be worth dick all but it doesn't bother me cos I;ll never sell her. Overall though, the market for trendy bikes has fallen away. We hipsters are onto the next thing and bikes are last years 'lifestyle accessory'. a few years ago there was all manner of back yard thrown together cafe racers asking silly money and 2nd hand Deus' asking certifiably insane money. Not so now. 90's sports bikes will be the next cool thing in retro bikes but the general market for who is interested will be shrinking as most the hipsters who were driving the inflated prices have either got bikes, or tried riding one and realised that there is a bit more to it than drinking coffee and having a gayass haircut. Also, all the hype around Sons of Anarchy has died down and that was a huge driver of the cafe/cruiser market. And that, is my prediction, based on bugger all.

Re: Prices of TRX's
yes I suspect the days of the 90s sportbike bargain are coming to an end. You can still get really great value on YZF750s but that wont last
On the plus side later stuff is getting very cheap
Starting to see some good deals on the Triumph Daytona 675 these days
