Trx 850 1999

Post by claudeel123 » Tue Oct 21, 2014 12:25 am

Hello , i have a TRX 850 from 1999 . I have noticed that there are 2 tipes of dasboard , one has a speed limit of 190 km/h and the other has 260 km/h. I have the 190km/h , my question is " what is the difference between them? And what is the top speed of the my motorcycle? (sorry for my bad english).

Welcome Claude,

I suspect that you have a Japanese version of the TRX.
This has a speed/rev limiter that restricts top speed to 180km/k and if you manage to disconnect the magnets in the speedo that active this then you will be restricted to 7000 rpm in all gears.
Check the ingintion controller under the seat, the Japanese version is 4NX.
There is a very simple way to get around this, fit the export version of the ignition controller (type 4UN) or even better, an aftermarket ignition controller from Ignitech. These can be ordered direct from the company in Czech, but depending on where in the world you are located it may be simpler to get it from one of our members who already have established contact with the company and can also provide the wiring loom adapter.

My standard TRX does a little over 225km/h down the main straight of Phillip Island GP circuit into a headwind.
I only know this because go into turn 1 at 225km/h, it is one of the only times I look at the speedo while on the circuit.
