On the plus side, who'd have thought we were riding round on crossplane cranks years before they stuck one in an R1?!'All-new 689cc inline 2-cylinder engine
'What gives the new MT-07 such a special character is its all-new 689cc inline 2-cylinder engine which has been developed using Yamaha's 'crossplane philosophy'. With an uneven firing interval, the 270-degree crank gives a strong feeling of acceleration and great traction, and the deep linear torque ensures outstanding performance.

And Dave Nourish did it in his NRE motors before it was a speck of jiz in Mr Yamaha`s baby baton!
Dave is now in his 80`s and still building engines ONE OFF to order all on his own, a true engineering master.
http://www.rutnet.co.uk/pp/business/detail.asp?id=4657
No fancy website for Dave, his engines are a testiment to his engineering skills.
A nice T45 framed NRE Wessy example:

Dave is the big guy in the middle of this picture:

I swear, before I shuffle off to the big road in the sky I`m gonna have myself a road going NRE!

Fair comment. Loving THE LOOK of these new generation short, stubby pipes. Having said that you can hardly blame the manufacturers for the legislation - just the soundtrack!Mincehead wrote:You mean those quiet, catalysed, short, stubby pipes?

Re: A new TRX....genuinely
I reckon this is a very impressive machine. Not hugely down on the TRX for power and torque but WAY down on weight. Obviously also has the 270degree parallel twin but in addition it is obvious to see how a bike like this could be a modified with better suspension and the like.
And of course, unlike the original it looks like this one could be priced right

I love that video! They should've made one of the colour schemes pearl white bodywork with a red frame though.Con Rod wrote: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJQRb6-BoGg

Being a Rex owner for so long, it has ingrained me to the twin sound it gives out, especially from the Akra end can,..
I'm also not sure I would be happy to pay a fair bit of money for a newer variant of what I already have to end with less power...a lighter machine, yes, but less power AND a a machine that will be focused to the LEARNER clientele,...to keep to the Yamaha fold, I would then turn to the MT09 ..the 850 tripple with 115hp....ok, but it doesn't make the sound anymore...
and in any case I'd be on the Triumph 1050 anyway...it's called value for money.!
For me,it's needing the twin sound, somewhere around the 100 horses plus...mostly it's gotta be a twin.
And NOT a learner
Want to upgrade the TRX,..?Husky Nuda...or the KTM rc8-1290....or a Ducati..
I'm not interested in the cruisers or the il4s.
Try again Yamaha...you're close ,but the best option so far has already been made...

Power to weight is a winner in my eyes, I'm sure they would give any TRX a good run for their money especially under brakes and corner speed for a motor that smaller cubes but similar output. Imagine how many r1 lads will be cheesed off getting done not only by an old 850 twin but a 700 also..

Yep MT09 and the Nuda 900R, ridden both and the MT09 has the better seat, the Nuda the bigger smiles per mile (fit the comfort seat) and the best suspension, Ohlin's rear, Sachs front! But put an AkrapoviÄ on the MT09 sort the suspension and it would be a tough decision...same price'ishalextrx850 wrote:Being a Rex owner for so long, it has ingrained me to the twin sound it gives out, especially from the Akra end can,..

The TRX was never cutting edge- it was heavy, lazy, underpowered (not much more power as standard than the 700!) and had budget suspension. Not exactly cutting edge but it was ripe for modifying because so much could/needed to be changed.
So, take a standard TRX and what do most people who actually want it to go and stop do? Change the can(s), fit blue spots and sort the suspension out as a minimum.
Take a standard 700, which is loads lighter than the 850 to start with, and what will most people who want it to go and stop do? De-cat the exhaust, sort the suspension and there's no need to fit blue spots because it's already got them!
It's no more or less a learner/budget/beginner bike than the TRX was. Ok, a half-faired 'S' version would've been nice but it's not a massive leap to imagine it with a late model R6 seat and upper fairing/bellypan fitted...

my thoughts exactly.. So just combine the three Alex, A naked look 700 with a Nuda motor in your TRX and call it a Nudie..

Re: A new TRX....genuinely
UK Pricing for this has been announced
"It's £699 less than Kawasaki's ER6-N and £499 less than Suzuki’s SVF650 Gladius, it's two closest rivals."
Read more: http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-...#ixzz2mNSf2FWo
So should be $10k or less in Australia, based on the ER-6 being $10k
Specs here:
http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/mod...%2007%2014.htm
Pretty good, 75hp, ~70nm and 180kg

Re: A new TRX....genuinely
I found the riding position weird. like its pushing your err hips right over the front wheel, and yet the bars are really close which sits you bolt upright, with a pegs back foot position. A bit too supermoto for me which is a shame as the rest I loved.
you can simulate the riding position of the MT09/MT07 on your TRX by sitting on the fuel tank.
