So why are the left side nuts on some van wheelnuts and left side axle spindles on some cars left hand thread then fung? 8) I'd already thought of that one.................[/quote]

to prevent them overtightening against rotation

If your axle is being rotated enough (shouldn't rotate at all) to impact on the (nylock!) nut, then you have some serious bearing issues.

Left handed threaded nuts on anti-clock wise rotating shafts are used to keep the nut tight

If it's not made in China, it's a fake!

Incorrect, it is to stop the lug nut from coming loose and only found on flat lug nuts, normally on trucks/vans etc, that have a dramatically varying load, it's not required on modern tapered lug nuts.

Yup - so, as long as the spacers are transposed, then there's no problem wiith the axle going in the other way from the Factory way????

correct...BUT if the nut has not been tightened and is loose it will generally undo quicker if it is on the right as the movement of the axel is dynamic in the forward direction which will undo the nut, as we acceleration more than we brake. Being on the left the same dynamic load will try to tighten the nut.

No doubt Rod has the true direction the engineers thought...in case an owner has forgotten to tighten the nut ..
Now who would do that..? =D>

On a van the left side nuts are often left hand threaded to ensure they don't loosen off- more of a problem the larger the distance the nut is from the axle centre.

But I spose if it's in the northern hemisphere it would be like water spinning down a drain and goes in the other direction than here so spin the wheel 180* just like fitting the wheel upside down problem solved

Just to bump this (interesting) thread - the TDM Mk1 has the axle going from right to left - the Mk2 from left to right and the 900 from right to left - all basically the same setup - no it doesn't really matter a toss as long as it's tight!
