Got a TRX at last but stumped on the rebuild

Post by Offspring » Sat Apr 19, 2008 10:30 pm

Hi,
So in 1996 had the choice of a new TRX or a Thundercat!! Numpty, I went with the crowd and got the thundercat. Now its time to put thing right. I got meself an 1996 TRX. She's in a sorry state but the rebuild is well on its way. However I am stumped on a small problem. I thought all Japanese bikes would have metric threads. Most of th bolts are metric but the brake caliper, discs and sprockets are not. Now I know I could part with some cash and go and buy a thread gauge but i would rather spend it on some shiny bits. Can anyone throw some light on what these threads are???

Cracking site, Lots of inspiration on what to aim for and already found answers to lots of problems.

welcome. what do you mean not metric? they most certainly are. All the M10 threads on the bike are fine pitch - 1.25mm.

:D Previously owned by Bodgem and Run (or Scarper if you prefer), Its amazing what can be made to fit into a metric thread UNF, Whitworth and another I cant remember now, but was fine thread. Then theres the coarse threads as well, If in doubt find a bigger spanner, there was something in Physics about using levers to effect more power, (unfortunately I had taken the day off, again!)

Thanks for the replies.

Got a thread gauge and its the supplied bolts that are wrong. Threads are metric fine pitch as you suggest. Out of a bolt kit comprising over 50 bolts, 4 of them were the wrong thread.

All fixed now. The big spanner theory was tempting!!!!
