back from ride.

Post by daniel » Sat Mar 22, 2008 12:57 am

Hi all, just got back from four days riding in the high country geting aquainted with my new ride. I have to say this has to be one of best handling bikes I have owned, just BRILLIANT!. This thing has 60K kms on it but nary a shake, shudder or shimmy as the pace got hotter,(credit to previous owner),just a bit vibey under full power coming out of those 35Km corners trying to keep a 929 'blade in view. No comparison there I know But the TRX will keep 'em honest at least.
Seems the faster I went the smoother it felt, which made for a enjoyable state of mind I can tell you. I had a Ducati Monster before this that was never as stable around the 160kph mark, could be down to the more tuneable suspension on the TRX, as the Monster was pretty basic.
It used a bit of oil in 1600 km's though, just over a litre, I've read that that is kinda normal (motul 15/50 synth.). Might switch to a cheaper brand though.
Not much to do when I got home either, just a wash, tweaked the chain, and clutch cable. I notice those things affect the smoothness of gear changes. interested to hear if anyone else notices a bit of feed back fron the gearlever, I rode two others before buying this and they felt the same as well. Might just be something I have to get used to ie matching revs/throttle/clutch.
All in all I'm as pleased as punch with my new thing :D , just thinking about some bling!
Dan.

Hi daniel, funny you should mention the rev/throttle/clutch thing as i was going to post a similar question.
I've not had mine long and have only had chance to give one decent run out.
For years (about 15) i rode two stroke 250's (kr-1s, rgv250 that sort of thing) they are very involved bikes to ride.
In order to be quick and smooth your constantly up and down the gearbox and if you mismatch the gears/revs/in any corner
your dead in the water as you'll drop out of the power band and lose everything.
I then went upto 750 4 cyclinder four strokes which are the exact opposite, they encourage you to be lazy by offereing plenty of midrange
grunt which basically means sit in top and it'll get round anything.
Then i buy the TRX and i'm buggered. Its to lumpy low down to sit in top so if the speed drops and you wind it on you get the pull but you also
get the lumpiness which isnt good so in my head i revert back to two stroke mode but while i'm happy to get involved with the gears again
i'd say about 25% of the time i'm screwing it up and corner exit speed is thrown away.
I'm sure i just need more riding time to get a feel for the bike but at the moment it doesnt make smooth fast riding.

I´m not going to add a lot here, just that on the faster more inspired rides in the twisties i see to it the TRX never drops below ~4500 revs. Then i never loose the grunt and flies out of the corners. I can also press the TRX more now with 120/70+170/60 tyres.

It's a funny old motor. Don't be scared to sue the revs. Mine rattles like hell low down, so it keeps it quieter anyhow!

I think you could be right col, its a bit lumpy(that's the word) down low, especially if you are in the wrong gear. bit like a two stroke. Guess I am used to my V twin smooth torque. I've only had this one for three weeks so getting the Rhythym is what its all about. I agree keeping things above 4500rpm does make a difference and mine seems to prefer anything above 120kph in top gear,(sorry officer, std gearing), especially when you just want to roll it on.I'm just used to keeping it in one gear and rolling it on when the way is clear, Showing my age I guess, I still like the sporty nature of these things,( guys my age are all riding cruisers), The TRX lets you carve it up without doing you back in!
