Well a coulpe of wweks ago i decided to check my valve clerences. saw i had a stuffed cam bearing. a new head later and im smiling as i torque my head down till i break a cam cap bolt. off with the head a new gasket. Matt at walsh cyl head sorted it out and on friday im again smiling as i am boltin it all togeather. and again one breaks. im quite at wits end. So this time its new high tencile bolts so it wont happen again. i know how to use a torque rench and even used my old head both times to set the rench up on 10nm and even pressure. dam cheep bolts. for the amount this thing has cost me i could have got a motor and bolted it in and sold off th parts to the old one.
Any one else had this problem?????????
It was a good excuse to derust and paint the frame, paint the engine, ehxust and just give the whole thing a mahusive clean, replace the swing arm bearings and just tutoo for a bit.

are you using the haynes book of lies?
ignore the torque settings and go by touch / feel

I've never known those bolts to break - I thought they looked to be pretty good quality. Sounds like they may have been overtightened in the past.

I'm with the Youngster - sounds very much like they'd already been stressed and couldn't take another stretching.
Mr Phuk... touch and feel?

that's what torque tables are for ! I know what you mean, but I've fncked up a few in my time - generally it's the casing that goes through overtightening... The last time I checked I'd done head bolts on a motor and "thought" they were tight enough only to check them to find I'd massively overdone it. I left them as were, but next tear-down would prolly result in another BrockZila incident (I sold the bike though

).

those cam cap bolts are the ones you never want to overtighten. i would always use a torque wrench on them.

yeah was going by the hanes manual. said 10nm. had the torque rench set at 8. all the others clicked off and this one just went bang. got my cyl head guy lookinjg for high tensile bolts for me. It was a second hand head and it looked to me like some one had already done the clearences as a couple of the shims were in different to the rest. so i will blame the last guy.
my mates call me brockzila as my nick name is brock, im not small, and i have a habbit of break stuff. so a brockzila incident is a fitting call.
