r6 master cylinder

Post by davesta » Wed Aug 01, 2007 12:56 pm

hey guys, i have 02 (i think) r1 goldspots on my trx and just bought an 04 r6 master cylinder off ebay, cos i want even better brakes (and cos i can). So i just got it in the mail and i'm a bit sus, it looks exactly the same as the one thats already on there. Like exactly. The markings are identical. So my question is, is the 04 r6 master cylinder different internally to the one already on my trx (even though externally it looks the same) or have i gotten shafted? I wont be happy if this stooge has sent me out a thundercat (or something) master cylinder, especially since the tightarse didnt even include the brake lever. but anyway enough of my ranting thankx guys

Externally they look identical.

The internal diameters are different. The R6 is slightly smaller, which gives you a better feel with bluespots than using the original TRX master cylinder.

R6 master will have 14mm cast onto it. TRX has 5/8. Other than that they do look identical.

T/Cat, T/Ace, both Fazers, R6 and R1 are all 14mm. TRX, YZF750 and that era are 5/8.

By the way your TRX lever wont work on the new MC.You will need an R1/R6 or something. This will save you going out on a ride and finding out your brakes will not release.

Why is that?

I bought a lever for my TRX master cylinder and it works fine on both that and the ThunderCat master, but the lever is stamped R6.

The TRX lever won't allow the master cylinder to return the fluid to the resevoir. The operating plunger is longer than the R6/R1 etc.The reason it worked on yours is because it is an R6 lever. The TRX one can be made to work with a bit of modification.I know this because it happened to me.

Dave, you can get pattern R6 levers from an accessory shop or wreckers for about $30
