UK Insurance

Post by cycloneranger » Sun Mar 23, 2014 11:58 am

My insurance is up for renewal, and shopping around i can get a lot cheaper quotes. I am planning a YZF suspension swap and obviously this will affect my insurance. I just wanted to ask you guys with modified bikes, who do you insure with, and has it made a big difference to your premium?

Don't insure with 'Justmotorcycle' insurance. I'm having murders with them at the moment. Lies, incompetence and they've cancelled my insurance AFTER admitting they are at fault ! From past experience you can list 2 or 3 mods of the kind you are planning with no extra cost.....Good luck.

ebike is the only insurer I have ever found who will insure modded bikes at a sensible price

Thanks for the advice guys.
I have been looking into ebike, sounds like they are cheap, but their customer service gets a slating in reviews.

Looking on a few other sites, Bikesure sound like an option too.

I use Carole Nash with an agreed value policy. My bike is a 'little' modified tho!! :D

Never had any problems personally - and I like that I can insure a number of bikes and make changes online. And document each and every change.

Right, got online quotes from ebike, Bikesure and Carole Nash. ebike were £243  but they do include a lot of extras as standard. Bikesure were £117 but not good for adding modifications online, i can see that going up if i rang to confirm the quote. Carole Nast were £134 with all the mods listed :D Will ring just to confirm but looking good so far.
That's fully comp for one old git, who has managed to avoid the tin boxes and old bill for a good number of years

Be very very careful about how you answer the questions and any assumptions that they have used when giving you a quote.

Insurers can (and will) invalidate your insurance if you misrepresent facts to them - and one of the most common is failing to disclose that your noisy end cans increase power (and could even be illegal for the road).

I was thinking the same, so rang Carole Nash and talked through all the mods with them. One thing i did find out is how the same things can differ between each insurnce company.

But a good outcome in the end :D

The next action is to check the documents when they come through to make sure that the commission driven button monkey has actually given that information to the insurer - and not accidentally forgotten / keyed incorrectly to ensure that you get a (favourable) quote

phuk72, love the avatar, real men ride twins... very good.
I have a little strip on the bottom of the number plate saying "My other toy has tits".
I could be the laziest man on earth, I just can't be arsed to find out.
