cracked frame

I wandered down to 'Trixy' today, bucket and spunge in hand, only to realise the frame rail is cracked right through, just where the left side engine mounting bracket meets it. Now I realise this sounds unlikely, but the only way this can have happened is during one of a couple of routine 5 mile rides this week. Nothing strenuous!

What I was hoping you guys (who have always come to my rescue before) might be able to advise is possible ways forward. The two most immediate options seem to be strip and sell individual parts, or buy and fit new frame. Im favouring the latter, as both involve stripping it and Im sure the fixed bike (minus price of frame) will be worth more than the individual parts. However, if you guys think otherwise, please let me know!

Of course, there is another option. That is to see this as God's way of telling me to build a special. To be honest I don't think I have the money or know-how for this, but Ive seen some lovely spondon-framed 'rex's online that are starting to convince me...

Sounds like it may have been overtightened - a pic would be useful.

There is a frame on Ebay.

Although it says £375 he offered it to me for about £150. Make him an offer. You'll have it stripped and rebuilt in an afternoon.

Alternatively you could get it welded, but it is thin tube and blows through easily.

ah fantastic, Ill have a look at the frame. No pics Im afraid, although the best way to describe it to would be as a crack around the entire circumference, just in front of where the engine is linked to the frame via a triangular piece on the left side of the bike.
