I was wondering...do the wavey brake discs make much difference to the braking?better performance?more feel?
i have heard that they `eat up` pads a lot quicker than standard type discs.....is this true?
anyone using them on their TRX?

Performance advantage is 'negligable' at best. The extra edges clear crap off the pads slightly better (but use pads quicker as you say) and disburse heat slightly better and they're slightly lighter, but no really noticable advantages for road riding.

Of a couple of SV650 racers I know, one uses them and one doesn't.

Biggest 'advantage' is they look cool but that's about it.

I thought they were mainly developped for offroad use, improving self cleaning.
In my eyes it's a gag - sorry for those of you having those.

agreed there just a gimick

ive only got em cos they were cheaper than getting a set of standard discs. and they were all that was avail at short notice for an impendng mot

Gimmick. Had a mate who club raced a ZX-7R, fitted the original Braking versions and the bike was even better at going straight than before. Um, that is to say they didn't do owt!

That said, for road use they are for bling purposes and for serious track use then I'd opt for proper thin racing discs. But for a track / road compromise then they are good.

AND they look cool

To the best of my knowledge gyroscopic forces depend on mass, speed an radius only.
Hence drilling an ordinary disc accordingly should yield just the same results.

As too cooling I agree on better dissipation but would assume that the discs edges get also
consistently hotter due to higher pressure (reduced surface area).

But since it is proven, I must be wrong .

I think that most folks who fit wavey disks would accept that it was bugger all to do with the claimed performance properties and all to do with the looks or surprisingly, to me, the price.

Well, I was just speaking subjectively, as the only bike I've ridden that had a set of Braking's wave discs put on (that ZX-7R) came out the worse for it.

I found that Spiegler iron discs with lightweight carriers, OTOH, were a noticeable improvement over the stock stainless on my old GSX-R WV (fade resistance and intial bite better). Definitely not for pimps though, unless you like rust. But if I had my druthers, I'd go for those before wavy discs.
