Front brakes lack feel - pads?
Just been out on the bike for the first time this year. All's well bar the front brakes. There's very little feel - to be honest they're scary!
I'm running bluespots with braided lines and a 14mm master cylinder.
Any recommendations for pads from anyone?

I run Carbon Lorraine SBK5 wich i think is just right for me....although they leave a mess on the front rim....the cheapo stuff i had before didn´t do that.youngy wrote:Just been out on the bike for the first time this year. Hi Martin,
I'm not sure what the OE spec is, but for what it's worth I use sintered EBC FA252-HH, although the EBC site also lists a Kevlar organic pad - FA252 which may be betterfor your needs. Maybe yours are a bit glazed and need a few high speed runs to restore their efficiency.

I think the other i had previously where as said already EBC HH sintered, they where dirt cheap in comparison....youngy wrote:cheers KW, I'll look them up. Any idea what the OE pads are?

It's posible they're glazed but they've not had a huge amount of use.
Far as I know they're EBC GG organic kevlar pads. Are these supposed to have more feel?? They're dire! Hmmm maybe I'll have a go at them with some sandpaper.

okay maybe a stupid suggestion but have you bled your brakes ? if laid up all winter damp or air may have made the fluid a bit iffy ?

I had a lot of trouble with feel with my front brakes. They would feel wooden one application and jerky in operation and then they would feel ok.
I undid the brake lever pivot screw, sprayed that with lubricant, then lubed the lever at the point where the lever contacts the rod into the master cylinder. Problem solved.

I'll give that a try - sounds very much like mine.ekoja wrote:I had a lot of trouble with feel with my front brakes. They would feel wooden one application and jerky in operation and then they would feel ok.

Also have just purchased some of that red rubber grease for the seals.

Re: Front brakes lack feel - pads?
I'm running the same basic set-up, essentially R6 calipers and master cylinder, braided hoses, and Carbon Lorraine pads. I reckon they are a bit wooden too, they work well (but not as well as I think they could do) and there is little feel. It doesn't compare well with the Tuono I had or the Shiver. I'm used to it, so it's not the end of the world, but I was always of the view that some softer pads might make a difference.

Previously I've had bluespots with the stock master and hoses. Pads were OE Yam and the feel was great, and I reckon stopping power was better. Maybe I'll change to OE pads, if they're not too expensive.

Re: Front brakes lack feel - pads?
wow I have brakes!
I removed the lever and greased the pivot and end of the piston with copperslip.
But I think what's really done it is removing the calipers, pushing all the pistons out and putting red rubber grease on them before pushing them back in to lubricate the seals.
It's as it should be now - flattens the forks immediately.
