Muffled to death

Post by Glyn » Sun Feb 10, 2008 5:34 pm

I just took off my MTC loudish cans and replaced with the originals. This has turned a loud but smooth and refined(ish) bike, into a complete nail. It doesn't want to tick over, it jerks and surges at low speed and is unpleasant to ride. When I fitted the MTCs I made no changes to jets or adjustments or anything and it was great. I need to have the quiet cans on as I go out early and the neighbours may get fractious. It seems as if the standard cans are bunged up. Can I get them to bits without an angle grinder? I took the three screws out and that did nothing, should I hit something?

:D Used to have to fit the originals for an MOT, never had any problems with the running of the bike.

I don't think they're meant to come apart Glyn.

The cans can be taken apart but it involves some cutting and isn't as simple as removign a few bolts.

If you didn't rejet then they should be absolotely fine - are you sure the cans are clear of any obstructions?

I'd check the original cans you've put back on for mice or other small rodents!

Hi all,
thanks for the advice. I'll check for rodents but they will burn off anyway after a while. It seems a bit better today, I'm probably leaving a trail of smoking mice in my wake. will check again at the weekend.

Glyn..
