I fitted a pair to my trx without any problem. AFAIK, they are almost identical, but might use different materials to make some components of the caliper. Perhaps someone could clarify. That's about all the info I could find. Oh, I think only the R1s got them, not the R6s, and maybe the XJRs. This is from '02/'03 I believe, just prior to radials, so they will be younger than blue spots (unless off an R6). And they look cool!

Sorry for stating the obvious....should read reducing heat transfer. This will reduce the chance of the fluid boiling.HansJ wrote:Not certain, but I've heard the pistons are made from a different material, thus enabling an improved heat transfer.
Having seen blue spots and gold spots, there appears to be no difference exept the colour.
I would say both are good and go for which ever is cheapest.

Well, in this case, that is an improved heat transfer, isn't it?philk wrote:Sorry for stating the obvious....should read reducing heat transfer. This will reduce the chance of the fluid boiling.HansJ wrote:Not certain, but I've heard the pistons are made from a different material, thus enabling an improved heat transfer.

Thanks for correcting, that's what I meant. If it's true, that is, or if they're just more bling looking...

I was actually scoffing at the idea of a different material being used (not your interpretation of heat transfer... And just a gentle tug on yer chain intended by the wayHansJ wrote: Thanks for correcting, that's what I meant. If it's true, that is, or if they're just more bling looking...
The only change I can see is the colour of anodising.... Yamaha are well known with perservering with the same old caliper design as long as possible: Check out the TRX rear from the early eighties for proof!
