sounds like a poor connection on the neutral switch to me.

could also be the starter circuit cut-off relay/wiring/connections

bike still starts just seems strange, when i but it in first and stall the bike on purpose the bike will not free wheel as it should do this, just seems to have a false nuatral at times, without showing nuatral light on dash, just need to click gear lever up and light shows on dash and it starts,i can live with it but would be better fixed, thanks again tony

if it's in gear (no neutral light) and the clutch is not pulled in or the side stand is down it shouldn't start. so from what you've said it seems to me to be electrical.

the neutral switch is under the alternator cover. it can get a bit shitty in there but more likely it's the connector. single light blue wire iirc.

the cut-off relay is located under the front seat behind the battery iirc.

i don't think the clutch switch or sidestand switch will affect the neutral light although they could prevent it from starting.

This sounds like the same problem i had a while back. Bike wouldn't start one morning. We pulled the bike apart and tested all circuits and it wasn't until Scott pulled the clutch in while finger on the starter that it fired. Had to start it that way for about a month and then came good  Put it down to a sticking contact. My bike doesn't have a neutral light because of the digital dash. It's been about 6 months and it hasn't happened since. Maybe it's just gremlins creeping in because of the age of the bikes now, hope not.
