YZF1000 ThunderAce shock in std TRX?
Done a bit of searching and found a lot of interesting info, such as 'Ace complete rear slots right in on the TRX (with front sprocket mod). That will probably be my route to get a 180 rear rubber (nevermind the weight) later on.
- What I couldn't find is if the setup uses TRX shocker or not?
- And if I just want a better shock for now, will the Thunderace shock fit in the unmodified TRX? What I can find says it will (same fittings and length 345 mm), but if someone has better knowledge I'd be happier... Can get a rebuilt full adj. 'Ace shocker for less than half price of just about any new, fully adjustable TRX unit.

Eh, buy my YZF750 swinger with the race öhlins attached instead! Not a bad idea really. I could drop by and pick it up after sundays race. Can I take that on 3 month credit? Or would you take an -07 R1 race bike...Killerwhale wrote:Eh, buy my YZF750 swinger with the race öhlins attached instead! Seriously, it's tempting but there's a lot of money invested in equipment right now. Don't have much to work with for a few months.
So, how much?

Re: YZF1000 ThunderAce shock in std TRX?
If you choose the thunder ace rear, don’t buy an offset sprocket, machine down the rear sprocket carrier 6 mm. This is how I went around things when fitting a 5.5” rim on the trx.
You will see a 6mm rise the rear sprocket sits on.
This allows you to use your std trx chain/ sprockets and if you want to change gearing or chain pitch to 520 or 530 your not dictated by the offset front sprocket.
Machining down the rear carrier will be a cheaper option too than buying a specialised custom front sprocket.
You’ll find the 5.5” rim will cause the bike to run wide exiting corners so change geometry and lengthen the shock length or shorter dog bones.

Ah, yes of course. That would be the smarter route. The plans are of course for lighter 520 setup.
Bike already sits 25 mm higher rear and 12 mm lower front than stock, I'd like to keep it around that even with rebuild. With a higher 180/60 race rear and added grip I don't think there will be any issues. Heck, I haven't ridden the bike in 12 years so however it behaves will be news...
Thanks!
We'll see, it might come to inheriting parts from KW's bike in the end. Hopefully he'll solve the issues, otherwise he's got a complete setup ready.

Just remember the front height dictates oversteer/understeer in to the corner and rear ride height dictates how your bike will react exiting the corner.
Plus when you lift the rear you need to accomodate how this reacts on the chain so less chain tension is needed otherwise as the suspension compresses you may get chain binding and you loose rear travel.

i have a thunderace swing arm modified to take the brake from a later model R6, which means you can run all the later spec r6 wheels.

And a R1 UPSD front so you could get magnesium or even carbon wheels, if you want to.coxylaad wrote:i have a thunderace swing arm modified to take the brake from a later model R6, which means you can run all the later spec r6 wheels.

That could actually be an interesting alternative if still available. What would I need more to make the bike roll?coxylaad wrote:i have a thunderace swing arm modified to take the brake from a later model R6, which means you can run all the later spec r6 wheels.

- Brake + hanger?
- R6 wheel complete with sprocket hub, spacers and axle?
- Any issues with chain alignment I need to consider?
- Shock?
Shipping to me will probably be about as much too... But who cares.

comes with r6 brake caliper, hanger and torsion bar.
Only needs the R6 wheels to go in. I am selling a set of those actually

Not sure you got that, it's still in my outbox but I'll buy the swing arm from you. Would you send me an email on how much with shipping to Sweden and how I can pay? I'll get you an address.

Re: YZF1000 ThunderAce shock in std TRX?
Was there ever a definite answer to ThunderAce -> TRX shock swap?
I have searched the forum, but I can't find a list of suitable shocks (with or without adapters). Is there a list hidden somewhere?

Re: YZF1000 ThunderAce shock in std TRX?
No straight answer, however I now have a T-Ace sving and will see how that fits with stock shock. Not this week, but in a month or so... For all I've found it looks like the ThunderAce shock will fit but as a lot of other shocks it will be a tad too short. Need to compensate that with shorter dogbones. Same goes for a GSXR1000 shock, is 10-15 mm too short.NielsJ wrote:Was there ever a definite answer to ThunderAce -> TRX shock swap?

I've done the same, no list only different threads to read through.
