MY TRX has sat without being ridden for a couple of months.
It has a battery that is probably 4-5 years old, which cranked the motor over just fine last time I rode the bike.

I went to start it yesterday. The dash lights all lit up as per usual, I hit the starter button, there was a "click" sound from the seat area and the dash lights all went dead. (The bike didn't start.)
I pulled the seat off to check fuses, all of which appear fine.
I then took connections off, then put them back on to check for dodgey connections.
After I took the grey one (see photo) off and put it back on the dash lights all worked again, but once again, as soon as I hit the starter they all went out and there was a "click" from the under-seat area.

Any ideas guys?
Any advice will definitely be taken on board and considered!

I suggest replacing it with a Lithium Ion battery. Incredibly light, more cranking power and holds it's charge for a year or so without needing to be recharged.

I'll agree on the lithium ion.
The std 210cca Lithium ion battery for a TRX is small and light with more than enough power on tap.
Bought a heavier duty Shorai with 270 cold cranking amp for the higher compression and still weighs in just on 1 kg so you'll loose around 2kg + just in battery weight.
It sat on the bench for over 1 year before I finally fitted it from new and after running it for a couple of months it sat on the bench again for another 12 months and no issues with power loss. Best investment for weight saving and longevity.

Ha ha,..yes, that's about it these days Rod.
I remember back to the old days pre fuel injection and my duties as an apprentice panel beater was to start all the cars and move them out of the shop for the day's work to start.
Still do as the now apprentices don't show for work on time or standing outside the gate smoking and texting each other.
I get the feel for each start

Aaah shit! ...... sorry guys, I just realised that I left one important piece of info off that initial post. (Doh! )

At first I thought: "Flat battery for sure".
I stuck the charger on it and it was indicating that it still had a fair charge, not full, but definitely not flat either.
I charged the battery up to full charge overnight regardless, so I doubt it's the battery. Maybe I'm wrong?

Its the battery.

Yep...

Battery earth to frame lead can cause the issue you describe.

the battery can hold a good 12/13 volt but have no/low amp's

Thank you for the useful responses.

Sharing the idea of solar trickle chargers to bikes that don't run regularly.
Available in good auto suppliers and not that expensive when they can be used on the car as well.
Same as the wife,..a looked after battery is a happy battery.
