yes and no ,,they have the look but not the internals of a cartridge fork you need 2003 on for that and they are shorter ,,the problem is there's not enough rebound and to much compression on the std R1 forks , when you buy the racetec they give you some very good tips , like polishing the internal damper rod ,the rebound valve comes ready built but the latest generation g2 compression valve doesn't so you go on there site and input the code they give you and it then pops out a shim stack which you then have to build ,,its an easy job but you do need quite a few tools ,like an air impact wrench,,a micrometer , and a spring compressor ,plus all the tools to take them off ,, but the end result is now a very compliant fork travel :D :D :D :D

I have a set of thundercat forks for mine, but should I fit theese with stiffer springs or sell them buy emulaters and fit them to my standard forks that have stiffer springs in them :?:

2003 r1 forks work well enough for me :D :D
Just added a steering damper though

if your forks have gold tops then they are better than 1998/2001 they have more rebound and less compression damping than previous models ,, but my understanding is they are 10mm shorter , this was told to me by Andy at kias so this may be why you need a steering damper ,, i would go for the later forks if i was doing it again , as it has cost £200 for me to do the re valve ,,, but now they are fantastic :D :D :D
