The one on the right is the Koito item. The one on the left is the cut down H4

Cheers Kev - that's answered my question... looking at it there's the detent of the tangs into the bulb holder PLUS the extra flange which explains why my beam pattern was so shite just resting the H7 on the holder...

If you're inclined to get a ruler out Kev, what's the distance between the filament and the tangs..?

Cheers

Well, it arrived this afternoon and I worked on it for about two hours prising the bugga apart. Took ages but finally learned the technique.

The 'misting' wasnt moisture, it was a fine white dust. It completely covered the headlight glass and the inside of the projector beam's glass, particularly the low beam one. I have cleaned everything out as best I could, but am worried that it might mist up again, as I'm not sure where it came from.

Looks like at least one of the bulbs has blown, the other might be ok. Where can I get them from - Yamaha or a cheaper supplier? Did someone say silly money for them ?

And finally - the wiring from the 2 bulbs isnt the same as the TRX - do I need to rewire or am I missing something? I thought it was a simple swap-over

:?

Will post pics if anyone needs to see any parts

Sure you should post as your one of the few (me thinks) who have opened it up!

And yes, you need to cut up the TRX connection.
I used a FZR600 headlight before so i´ve already done it....i really don´t know what they are called in english but i just soldered on contacts wich fit the FZR600....and when i switched they fitted.....with a scream into the FZR400 connector.
You got the cable between the projectors don´t you???

Pics attached - difficult to show white dust on projector lens.

I have the wiring cable for the two bulbs, each has the same colourscheme as what is currently on the TRX(black, green & yellow). Do I just strip the plastic off the existing wiring cables and attach each wire to it ? Or is there more to it?

If you look at the pic and imagine there are a flat female contact in there....that´s what i already had on the TRX side (going into the fzr600 headlight)
These could be pressed into the fzr400 square male thingey....and a lotta tape....even if i never drive in rain! :)

.....not saying this is the way of doing things....i do the fast thing!!

Stop me if you've heard it! but
I seem to remember an Auto Leccy friend telling me that the white shite that you found inside the lens is actually the residue of a blown (read exploded) bulb?
Could be wrong.

If you use a tiny flat blade screw driver, you can insert it into the back of the male socket to remove the spade terminals. Any electrician should be able to supply the correct housing and it will fit like original equipment.
Seem to recall that these bulbs are used in a current model bike as well, wish i could remember which one
