Brembo brakes need new master cylinder

Post by pwmotorsports » Sun Oct 28, 2007 2:08 pm

Do you run standerd brakes on your trx ? ive got a Japanese import with the gold brembo's on it ive just fitted the new top yoke conversion with flat bars and im looking at changeing the master cylinder with somthing else and wondered if you had any suggestions ? I was thinking about an r1 model but anything that works well would be good?

any suggestions ?

IMO the R1 master will be too small with OE calipers (Brembo or Sumitomo). You will need a 5/8" master cylinder, same as OE.

And in my opinion the R1 m/c gives a whole load more feel over stock

with stock calipers? As I said - too small IMO. With the smaller pistoned bluespots I think the 14mm master is way better.

In terms of feel - yes (even with stock calipers) - although you are right in that the real benefit is derived from the the bluespots

so there you go pw - opinion divided (surprise!!)

I guess your only option is to try both and see which you prefer.

Yep - that's what I'd suggest as well

Buy an R1 / r6 m/c and see what you like best. You'll always get your money back if you don't

These things are all about personal preference - some people like the on / off nature of braking.

What i want is somthing that gives me the feel i got from the cbr 600rr at the haslam race school couple of months ago i know a lot of that will be the newer bike the better brakes tyres etc but there was so much feel and the brakes on the trx are ok as standard with the brembo's but if while replaceing the master cylinder which i have to do i can make it into somthing better than why not ?

ive a 99 r1 aswell so could canibalise that and try the bits i suppose to try it out

would a Brembo
Radial Brake Master Cylinder 16mm ratio 18 do the job ?
or am i better for spending the money on a r1 calipers and all setup ?

I picked up a radial pump off of a CBR 1000RR (Nissin) from the US. Paid $145 au including postage. Love Ebay :D Already had the bluespots with lines and R1 pump and the radial took it up another peg. More lever and feel.
Any money spent on brakes is well worth it. I thought there would be issues with the lever clearing the fairing but it's not the case, plenty of room. Now i've just got to sort another one for the track bike. It never ends.
