Carb compatibility
Will 4TX carbs from a 1997 TDM 850 fit my TRX?

Re: Carb compatibility
Maybe. I don't know for sure. Main issue would the spacing of the carb bodies.
You could probably make it work by swapping bits from one carb body to another.
My advice is to ask the TDM guys at Carpe TDM.

Some Ducati's also use the same BDST38's.

Re: Carb compatibility
For information I bought a set of 4TX carbs that came off a 1997 TDM 750 and they were identical to my TRX850 units. The owner gave me some history of the carbs and they looked in good order so we did a deal. They are now on the bike and it runs great - I bolted them straight on without any checks and it started up good as soon as the fuel was through. Biggest problem was getting the throttle cables fitted to the dammed rotating pulley in the centre of the unit.
Bike is now on the road but I had forgotten about the high 1st gear and how it seems a bit quirky after riding Japanese 4 cylinder bikes for the past 8 years.

Re: Carb compatibility
Well done.
You'll probably find that they are jetted differently, but close enough to work OK.
If you go down the path of 'tuning' CV carbs, be aware that the 'needle' taper is different on most aftermarket kits, and has a dramatic effect on performance, usually for the worse!
For my money the best bang for buck mod to a stock TRX is to swap out the ignition unit for the IgniTech Sparker TCIP4. Even with the default settings for TRX it's heaps better than the stock unit, pretty much eliminates the flat spot below 4k rpm.
