Hi,
my first post here, i just bought a TRX 850, In austraila, 1999 model, very well cared for 110,000k
motor runs like a charm, but when riding, (not sure if its in my head) i seem to hear a "rumble"
has anyone had any issues or know of any issues with bearing on these gear boxs...???
In nuetral, with a warm engine no noise..... seems to be thrid or fourth gear....???
I have only done 330k on the bike, will drop the oil and have a look.... any put or links would be great.
Thanks Looseplug.

Is the chain in good repair & have you checked the condition of the front sprocket? Check if the chain rollers have worn too far into the sprocket teeth. If either are very worn/poorly lubricated, seized & stretched links etc. It can create a rumbling sensation & noise on most bikes.
If you collect the oil in something clean and it & the filter are ok, just pour it back in when you're done.
Good luck!

Third and a little in fourth will give a whine Looseplug,my original 96 motor had it bad,..just in third, but I think all Rex motors have the third gear whine..if you've just had a four cylinder machine, you will find a lot more character in the TRX.
Enclose your location, this is a must as there will be someone about to come and have a listen.
Otherwise it MIGHT be a loose plug....Looseplug.

The guys have made good points.
If however the rumble is emanating from the two shiny pipes pointing rearward of the bike, then all is good.

Best way to cure any strange noises from the motor is to put on some loud cans....
Otherwise, first check the easy things not involving getting into the motor, like chain, sprockets, wheel alignment, wheelnuts tight, bearings etc.
It could be the noise is at a certain speed which just tends to coincide with when you're in 3rd/4th gear area.

Hmm, the whine noise in third gear is louder than mine BOS exhaust without the db-killers.

Earplugs fixed my whine over 50,000km ago. So when Janet goes" you and that bloody bike" earplugs in, the whining stops"

But in the back of my mind I have that feeling one day things will crack and I'll have to deal with metal banging into my head from the fry pan..

Thanks for the input...
My location is Nambour, QLD. (blue bike)
Chain n Sprockets, all new, as are the tyre pressures correct....
I do have a decent set of cans on there... ear plugs next...lol
Bike rides and stops as it should, the only issue... is this rumble... but doesnt effect the speed/torque when riding.
Bike has done a few Ks 117,000k.... and only three owners, maybe its all in my head..??
