Leaking Fork Seal
Hi,
Fairly new to the Forum, but thought I would pass this on.
I had a weeping Fork Oil seal on my 96 TRX, so thought I would have to change the seal. Not an easy job, but I had changed seals before on another bike, so knew how to do it & had the trusty Haynes manual at hand.
While searching on line for replacement seals I came across, what Is in effect a thin piece of plastic, shaped with a hook on the end, it's called a "Seal Mate". The description says, that in most cases oil seal leaks are caused by a bit of crap (my word), being stuck under the seal lip, and that this "tool" can clean out the seal & fix the leak.
I was dubious, but at about £4 thought I would give it a try, and guess what, it worked! took me about 5 minutes. Now no leak.
If you have a leaking fork seal, it's worth a try. Hope this helps someone.
Cheers
Mick

Re: Leaking Fork Seal
I have got one odd spare fork seal here in my box of bits if it does leak.
I am assuming you have stock forks and are in the UK!
Shame to bin it but no use to me.

I've used one of these. I actually made my own by cutting out an ice-cream container lid. Did the trick for me. 3000 kms - so far so good.

Re: Leaking Fork Seal
yep this can work, any thin flexible plastic will do. Only thing I would suggest would be to change the oil as there is probably a fair amount of "crap" and water and what not has made its way in and oils changes are cheap and easy
